Newly sleeved at 58 and doing fine. I had some slight issue immediately post op but I don't think it was age related. The loss post surgery has been slower than expected (by me) but the Drs are pleased with the results.

I am 60 and had my sleeve done last Monday on 11/3.  I did not want to waste another year of my life being obese either!  But this is by far the hardest thing I have ever done in my life since mourning the loss of the good old comfort foods is very difficult.

I'll be 55 in Feb.  My surgery is scheduled for Dec 1, 2014.  There's a Facebook Group called "Gastric Sleevers over 50" that has been helpful researching factors relating to the sleeve and age.  So far, the best I can tell is everyone's experience is different.  There are several members that say they stay off boards with younger folks, just because their losses are not as drastic as people much younger and they can't help but compare.

I know my metabolism is in the tank, the exercise Dr at my surgeons office told me that I should work on strength training as soon as possible (even before surgery) with lightweight bands.  He said if I can maintain and increase muscle mass, it will increase my metabolism and help with weight loss.

Check out the Facebook Page, if you're on Facebook.

i had surgery at age 58. lost 125 lbs total.   I am now 63 and have kept it off. my hubby had his at age 58 and is doing well after 2 years. my older brother was 62 and is doing well. I have a good friend who just did it at age 73 i think.  Being older is a good thing because you are ready to let go of food.  I might not have done so well had I been younger.   go for it.   diane

Had surgery at 57.  I took a month off of work, because I could.   I have lost 133 pounds and have been in maintenance for a little over a year.  I have not been in such good health for many years.  All my doctor's are very pleased.

I had A VSG on 10/10/14.  I am 68.  I have had no problems whatsoever. I retired two years ago and Medicare pays for WLS.

I am 67 and am having VSG on Dec.1.   My best friend is the same age and is having the same surgery, the same day, with the same surgeon.  We have been best friends for 25 years and both decided to start a new chapter for a healthier future.  Our husbands are concerned of course but very supportive.  We have a great surgeon and hospital and are happy we finally made this decision.  Research is your best friend when considering WLS.
