Thanks for posting this. I'm interested in the same question. I am 63 and have surgery November 18. The age thing has been a question since the beginning. Sounds like most people have no regrets and are happy with the choice but I don't see a lot of response from long termers. Good luck to you!

I am going on 2 years (1 1/2 in maintenance) and am 60.  See ticker below and pics in profile.  I have in the past lost weight, but never have been able to keep it off for more than a nanno-second.  With the sleeve, I feel I have a hope of long term success.  I wish you well.  bonnie

Sleeved 6/2/14 at 54-- lost about 100 lbs. so far.  I hadn't thought of myself as an older candidate for the surgery until I read your note.  The whole "being the oldest" thing kind of creeps up on you in your 50's, so I'd have to say I'm losing a little slower than younger people, but still losing.  Other than older metabolism being a lot slower (I need even less food than I had previously  been overeating) I'd have to say there's no big difference in outcome.

Patience, grasshopper: if there is anything I have learned it is this- that time is there for a reason...ie. tempering- Embrace these next three months  and LEARN, strengthen, and dedicate...Time is your friend.....the   strength you build will help  carry you through to goal....

WOW!!! Thank you for all the responses! I was totally surprised of the number of reposes! I am 57 and was wondering how people my age or older did long term. I would love to lose another 100 lbs but I don't know if my body will go down there. ??? (125 LBS ??) Thank you again for all the encouraging words! This journey will be slow and steady. :)

I am 59 years old and had VSG 10 weeks ago.  I have lost 50 lbs. (since June 2014) and I feel GREAT!  I have not had any problems and wish I had done this 10 years ago!  For me, the idea of remaining overweight and I had developed Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc. definitely made me move forward with the surgery.  Best thing I ever did for myself!  I feel so much younger now and I look pretty darn good too if I must say so myself!  Best of luck with your decision making process.

I was 53--that was over 7 years ago and I'm now 60. I have done great. The surgery was, for me, a breeze and I am maintaining my weight loss!.

I am 66, but had the surgery Sept. 9, 2014. I gained weight later in life due to my medication.  I was always starving so I ate ate ate.  Ballooned up to 259 at 5'3".  I'd had enough with the aching knees, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and the fear I would have a heart attack.  Doing fine, and have lost 41 pounds so far.

I had surgery just over two years ago when I was 56. I lost all my excess weight in about 9 months and have been successfully maintaining since then.
