Don't think I can
If it's making it through the surgery itself that worries you, I always look at it this way - I take a greater risk of injury/death every time I get behind the wheel of my car, and I don't give that a second thought. Nerves before surgery are normal, but the surgery itself is the easy part. If you're on edge tomorrow, ask them for something to take the edge off.
But, if you really feel the need to cancel, do it. No one should jump into this before they're ready. Just ask yourself what you're going to do without the surgery to get the weight off and get healthy that you haven't tried already.
Sending you hugs!
I had the same issues the weekend before my surgery. I kept thinking something was going to happen to me, I think I had been watching too much Grey's Anatomy in the weeks leading up to it. I seriously considered cancelling it, but then I realized: I had come too far, done way to much work, needed this for a positive life change, why back out now? I had a hard time convincing myself that my fears were irrational, but now that I look back on them, at 3 weeks post op, I know that they were VERY irrational. There were 3-4 surgeries the same day as mine at the same hospital all for some form of WLS and we all made it through fine, and we all went home the next day. The stats show that almost all of vsg surgeries are the same way. Do you have a therapist you could talk to about your fears? Mine was an angel when it came to these thoughts creeping up on me.
Hi Marie,
I had the same thoughts on the day before. My biggest fear was not waking up. It was tearing me up enough that I asked my surgeon that as they were prepping me in the OR. Don't back out, you will be fine and grateful that you took this very important step toward a healthier you.
Good Luck!!!!
If God brought you to it, he will bring you through it.
You have to trust your surgeon. And trust that he is highly motivated to keep you safe and have a successful outcome.
God loves you. He is in control and he is good and only wants the best for you. Do not have a spirit of fear. Lean on him, trust him completely.

Yes! This!
I have a phobia of flying. I had never done it before and thought for sure I was going to die in a plane crash (flying to have surgery in Tijuana). But I weighed the risks and staying the weight I was (and always increasing) was much more risky.
Then the night before surgery, I laid in the hospital bed crying in my husbands arms after having to have a picc line in my chest because they couldn't get an IV in me. Again, I was scared I wouldn't make it through surgery because I had never been put under but I weighed the risks and knew I had to change my life. For me and my family (5 young children).
Honestly, the whole thing was not a fun experience at all. It was so scary beforehand and it was hard to get used to the changes after. But you know what? I would do all of it, over and over and over again to get the life that I have now! It's been less than 5 months for me and I'm closing in on 80lbs lost. I walked/jogged a 5k 2 months post op. I am down from size 24 to a size 15 jeans. 3x shirts to plain old large shirts. So much energy! It's incredible! YOU deserve to live a better, healthier life too! It might be hard at first. You may even have a complication. But MOST likely, you are going to be just fine! Just give all to God! You can do this! :)
It's only normal to be earful It's a serious surgery, and you would be stupid to take it lightly. But, this surgery has very small complication rates and if you have a prfessional, qualified surgeon who has cleared you for the procedure, then you just need to have faith.
I can tell you that my surgery was reschduled 3 times. I felt that God was sending me a sign not to do, but I went ahead with it any way. The only regret that I have still today, 6-1/ years later, is that I didn't get it done sooner!
Prayers and good wishes for you!!
GO! Express your fears to your surgeon and anesthesiologist when you see them in the pre-op room. They will answer any remaining questions you have and the anesthesiologist can address any lingering anxiety you may have with medication to calm you down before you get to the OR.
You've come this far. You've prepared. You owe it to yourself to show up at the hospital tomorrow and at least talk to the doctors before you make any decisions to back-out.
