Tried to eat normal -- it was painful!
I went out with a good friend last night for dinner. It was great to catch up with her :) but it was the first time that I went out and didn't really think about the sleeve at all (when ordering)
We got a pitcher of sangria, started w/ the chips and salsa -- ordered 2 apps and 2 meals. The dishes were small b/c it was a fancier mexian fusion place, but still. I ate almost half the apps and a full half of one of the meals -- the other meal was not great so skipped it. I ate well past fullness and felt like crap! I went to the bathroom after the meal b/c I thought I had to throw up. nothing came up. Then she/ we ordered the dessert sampler. OMG I have no control when it comes to sugar. I ate almost half of it then did indeed get sick.
It's great the tool is there, but really we need to eat with it in mind. I don't know what I was thinking (I wasn't!)
My calories yesterday were nearly 2000! wow. for me now that is like double a normal day. Before surgery that was a good day. I think this could easily become a norm for me if I wasn't careful. I'm back to putting the sleeve first.
It's odd that when I go on a date it is so much easier to order something that respects myself and my goals, but when I'm out with a friend I didn't feel the need.
Stacy, I am just starting out basically, but this procedure is no joke, and it will be a day-to-day (if not minute-by-minute) thoughtful process for me.
You realize what you have done and that is great. You have done a great job with your sleeve. We all have ocassional bad days, I am sure I will to.

Hi Stacey
as someone who did what you described with your friend over and over again post surgery, you can end up like I did.
A few tips that may help you now:
The difference between your dates and dins with friends is like the difference between your first driving lesson and now when we drive home from a regular place and have no idea what happened the last 5km because we were just driving on auto pilot.
-pyschologists call it mindful eating - it kind of just means try to concentrate on eating and focus on the meal so you are entirely aware of the eating experience and not just absent mindedly moving morsels to your mouth while catching up.
- maybe it would be useful to know how many forks you can eat and then divide it up and allot x forks to your starter, x to your main and x to your dessert. Concentrate on the texture, and the taste and really experience. That way you participate in the entire 3 courses, get to enjoy the taste but don't risk stretching your pouch or making yourself ill.
Catching up with a friend and having a treat day in relation to eating is okay, just ensure that it is a treat (ie not a regular thing); compensate for it by eating super healthy a few days before and a few days after and then have the treat day without feeling like you are being bad; be very very careful to never be uncomfortably full. The line between uncomfortably full and throwing up (as you know is so very fine).
Noting your lapse of concentration and getting back to being as healthy as you can is difficult and you are already heading there. Good on You!
Yeah this weekend I had ONE bite too many and felt like I was going to pass out!!!! My fiance was like "Babe are you okay?" I was starting to sweat and everything. So I just sat there for a moment and tried to relax the mind. It finally passed.
