Getting My Butt Kicked

By five ounces of food. (happy dance...in a manly way)

For dinner I had 2 oz. of chicken salad, 2 oz. of green beans, and 1 oz of mashed potatoes and I couldn't fini**** I ate all the chicken and about 2/3 of the green beans and potatoes.

Very few times in my life have I dumped food down the disposal. It's great.

I am still amazed at how little I can eat.  At 5 months out, I cannot eat much more than that.

I'm 6 months post-op and there's no way I could eat 5 ounces of food.  But.. I also wouldn't try :P  I measure my meals at 4 ounces and sometimes I can't even finish that.

So, is it bad that at three weeks I can almost eat 5 oz.?

I know when I was on the clear liquid phase, I could drink 2 cups of chicken/beef broth easily. When I got to thicker soups (cream of chicken, pureed vegetable soup, etc) I could only handle about a cup worth, and sometimes not that much. Now, 4 oz. is about it (remember, I didn't actually finish the 5 oz.).

Will it reduce further when I get to solid foods? Is a 3 oz. dinner in my future? ... Not that it would be a bad thing.

I don't know if it's bad, but it's not something I'd be trying to do.  I keep my meals to 4 ounces total.  If I'm eating something where the protein is separate I weigh out 3 ounces of protein and 1 ounce of veg.  If it's a dish with the protein and veg combined, I weigh 4 ounces total.  I might be able to "work up to" 8 ounces right now, but I don't really see a reason to do that.  I feel satisfied with 4 ounces.

Liquids I never had an issue with either.  I could (and can) easily drink 8-16 ounces with no issues.  Ditto for full liquids.  They don't trigger the pyloric valve to close so they just go right through the sleeve.  Solid foods do trigger the pyloric valve.

What are your surgeon's guidelines for how much you should be eating right now?  When I was in pureed, the stage before soft solids for me, I was allowed 2-4 ounces per meal (in 30 minutes).

Two ounces of meat and two veggies. I tried to get an ounce of carbs in there too.

That's great news. I am pre-op. I totally look forward to throwing food away. Good luck and keep up the good work.
