That was harder than I thought it would be (long rant)
I am going to go in to a bit of a rant here. Seriously? Your mom was throwing a party for how many? You are an adult living away from home. A more appropriate way to manage the situation would be to say "Hey Mom, I know you have a lot going on and do not need to worry about making special foods for me. I am going to get some things I can eat. Do you need anything? I'll just throw this turkey burger on the grill with my zucchini, you want some?"
Take adult ownership of your needs and help your mom out.... geez.
I'm not upset with my family at all. I 100% agree this is on me. I had a hard time this weekend. I think a lot of it was because I thought I could just show up and find things that were ok. That isn't what happened. I ended up having a lot of anxiety about it -- I was sharing my feelings about that.
It is very frustrating for me that I can't be normal. It is how it is, but that doesn't make my feelings bad or rude or whatever - they are what they are.

Uncalled for response. Try reading the original post again! This was a personal vent but was not at against her family!

One thing I've figured out since surgery is that there are a lot of different paths to better eating and better health. Everyone needs to find out what works for them. No one needs cupcakes, of course, but since you are at goal, a cupcake once in a blue moon isn't terrible. I personally wouldn't have missed vegetables either. The last green thing I ate was cheese that was past it's expiration date. This works for me, but obviously wouldn't for you.
I think next time you need to bring more of the food you want. It sounds like your family won't become vegans any time soon. They sound like my kind of folks!
