quick question...surgery monday...
NO. Some surgeons will not operate if you have had more than one ounce in the 8-12 hours before surgery. What they may let you have is enough to wet your lips or just a couple of small ice chips. Drinking anything just before surgery can cause problems with the anesthesia and aspiration - look up n Wikipedia and you will understand.
No, you can't.

Mine said nothing after midnight and only a small sip of water at least 4 hours before arriving and mentioned no ice chips. I read on here people say to bring chap stick!
NOPE! They tell you this because it reduces the risk for aspiration during surgery. This is the reflux of acid/liquids into the lungs while lying supine on the surgery table. DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE. If you aspirate during surgery this can lead to them keeping you intubate on the ventilator (breathing machine) and being admitted for a longer hospital stay.
only a tiny sip if you have a pill you must take with the surgeon and anesthesiologists ok you probbly got a list of what pill you can take the day before and the day of surgery
less is better they will hook you uo to a iv when you get to the hospital
