Dizziness -- I feel high (is this anorexia?)
So no I don't think that I am anorexic, but developing it is a concern.
I have had issues with dizziness from the get go. For a while, I incorporated more carbs and that helped. Lately it has come back a lot. I know it is because I have very low blood pressure and exercise a lot. When I spoke to my doctor, he told me to be careful when I stand up. (thanks doc!) basically he said there was no health issue with it, but that I just should try not to fall down.
Lately, I have noticed that when I get dizzy that I almost feel high. It is kind of cool. I also notice that I tend to loose weight on days after feeling it more.
I am careful to eat lots of salt (oh poor me!) and drink lots of water. With my low blood pressure, low carb intake and high exercise I'm not sure there is a way around this without eating more carbs (so I can retain more water) or exercising less (to sweat less).
I do not keep my carbs very low compared to a lot of people. I usually have between 75 - 100 grams per day. I have noticed that I have been skipping my morning snack -- moving it to the afternoon. Then sometimes I skip my afternoon snack. My calories have been lower the past few weeks (and I've lost about 5 lbs after being steady for almost 2 months). Is this bad? Is this good? I don't know.
This is a long ramble. What do you guys think? Should I just go with what I'm doing? Should I try to avoid this dizziness?
Stacy how low is your blood pressure??? I have it also but not to severe I went from high blood pressure to lower blood pressure today's wasn't bad it was 116 /61 ... I to try to get a bit more salt in and drink a lot more but if it's that bad ... what if you pass out and hit your head... so many what if ' s ... be very careful don't take any chances... it's not worth it!!! :-) plus I know your a power horse with with exercise be very careful... Also call your Dr. Talk to him about it please!!! :-)

It's like 95/(50-60). It's pretty low -- it was low to start with and then after losing the weight it went down more. I have passed out a couple of times.
I brought it up before and he said it was fine, but standing up quickly is just not part of my life anymore. People at work look at me like I'm crazy when I just have to pause in the hallway to stop the world from spinning.
I have to go in for blood tests soon, so I'll bring it up again.
That's my blood pressure and I don't get dizzy. I'm also not as tall as you. I don't think it's considered low, though, just low normal. I don't know about the anorexia question. How are your iron levels? I know your hydration is good. Have you had sinus/inner ear troubles? it's definitely allergy season. It's possible it's not even weight loss related even though I know that's what we all tend to think of first.
I had and still have that issue. I stopped going to the doctors about it because 1) the answer is always the same (ie bc of weight loss, low BP, dehydration etc) and 2) after I passed out once and went to the ER, the doctor told me he could have my drivers license suspended (which was accurate after i researched that) soooo I just deal with it now. I definitely have to stop and wait it out after standing up. Even if I get up slowly, I still get dizzy.

it is possible you are beginning a transfer addiction...to the "high" feeling you get when your blood pressure is low. Then you say sometimes you skip your morning snack and then. You skip your afternoon snack.
It is possible to get addicted to the "control" we feel over eating. It is another form of anorexia for sure. I would be more concerned about that than the low blood pressure. Mine has been 90/60 for the last 5 years with No ill effects.

Found this awhile ago, it has been one of my concerns. I have asked a lot of people and they have told me that while they were losing weight that this happened, once they started their maintenance phase it subsided. I am pre-op though, but have definitely researched this.
I've had the same issue, and was told it is orthostatic hypotension. I've passed out a few times from it. My BP is usually about 90/50. You can check your BP while sitting or laying down, and then immediately upon standing. It should drop some, but climb back up after just a few seconds.
My doc told me to drink more fluids, have more salt and other electrolytes, and be careful when getting up.
One of the issues is we damage the veins in our legs while morbidly obese. Veins are meant to direct blood in only one direction, back to the heart. They have valves in them to make sure blood doesn't flow backward. We also grow new veins, including varicose veins, to aid in circulation while obese. These venous issues can make orthostatic hypotension worse. A simple ultrasound can show if the veins in your legs are working right, or not.
I had EVLT, laser ablation, on both legs to seal the greater and lesser saphenous veins, and sclerotherapy to remove bunches of varicose veins. This helped raise my blood pressure some, but I still need to be careful standing.
Our veins do adapt over time. For most people, we lose weight so quickly that for a while we are left with an obese person's veins in a skinny person's body. Some of it should resolve itself.
