The first 2 weeks after my surgery I was only allowed full liquids.  The majority of my diet was protein shakes which I supplemented with various soups that were strained (my favorite was french onion soup from Panera, strained) and sugar free popsicles.

I would recommend not getting too much before surgery.  My tastes really changed a bit afterwards.  I started dreading sweet protein shakes and different soups sounded good -- things that I would not have liked presurgery.

Some staples:

protein shakes

popsicles

vitamin water

(all sweet -- hence wanting some soup!)

I drank a lot of chicken broth with protein powder, and I made sugar-free jello, also spiked with protein power and sugar-free, fat-free puddings. I don't remember exactly when I added plain greek yogurt, but that also can be mixed with protein powder and artificial sweetener for a high protein creamy treat.

best of luck,

Carol

My first 2 weeks were also full liquids only.  I also made sugar free jello with protein and drank a lot of chicken broth with protein powder.  I also liked beef broth for a little something different.  But I mostly drank my protein shakes because it took me so long to drink a full portion of broth that it would go cold before I could fini****

Also, I can't stand to drink just plain water so I stocked up on different flavors of Crystal Light and I've been drinking it ever since.  I don't get the powder but instead I use the little bottles of liquid that you squeeze so that I can control how much flavor I want to add.

Good luck on your surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery!
