Hi everyone. I am about a month and a half out form my surgery date. So I start my pre-op diet in three weeks. I'm trying to look into protein shakes and suplements. I hear everyone say they don't like the Isopure drink bottles that are 40g protein and no carb. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to try? I want to hear what people liked what they didn't etc. Thanks!

I like the Isopure bottles I just can't afford them :-).

I use Isopure unflavored in a million things and I love jay Robb whey powder it's super healthy non GMO, stevia and all flavors are yummy. Nectar is Awesome also. Unjury broth is great those first weeks.

It's really an individual thing. I would suggest getting samples - and get two samples of everything you plan to sample before surgery, so you can sample it again after surgery before committing to a larger purchase. Your tastes may very well change after surgery.

I personally did not like any of the RTD protein drinks, but for the first few weeks after surgery I choked down the Isopure RTD, cut 50/50 with a complementary flavor of G2 or Powerade Zero, just because the numbers were so good and I needed it. At that point, it's not really about what you like IMO, as long as you can force yourself to drink it. I also made myself drink the Premier Protein chocolate shakes because the numbers were good. They were not as revolting as the Isopure but I still wasn't crazy about them.

Brands I actually liked: Unjury (chicken soup and chocolate splendor), Chike (watch out for high calories and carbs - I typically use a half serving), Syntrax Nectar, Syntrax Matrix, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard, and Jay Robb. After surgery I also used the HealthSmart protein soups and the HealthSmart cappuccino and hot chocolate -- and still use the hot drinks today, I love them.

Brands that I tried and didn't like: Bariatric Advantage, Bariatric Fusion, Dymatize Nutrition, BSN, IDS Multi-Pro, Protizyme, Click, Tera's Whey. Was neutral on About Time and Designer Whey.

A lot of people like the Body Fortress brand sold at WalMart but I haven't tried it.

Good luck!

THANK YOU so much for providing these links and info!  I was just wondering where I could find this type of info other than internet searches. Hearing from vets on what they have already found, and like/works, is very beneficial!

Thank you. I realize that it's gonna be an individual taste thing but I just really didn't even know where to begin.

I love the Pure Protein Cookies and Cream and the Atkins Mocha Latte RTD shakes. I use the Now Sports whey protein isolate powder. I LOVE IT! I order it online but my local health food store has it. Mixes and tastes great. I use the Isopure bottles. The melon is my favorite. I make popsicles out of it. The lemon tea is ok. I add a crystal light lemonade packet to it. Personally my tastes didn't change after surgery so I was able to continue with the same products. Good luck!

I am 5 days into my liquid diet and I really love the Unjury products.  The chicken soup is delicious, chocolate splendor mixed with decaf coffee (and I use Premier Vanilla protein drink as cream); also mix the strawberry sorbet and freeze it then pour sugar-free lemonade on top of it and eat as a snack, very good.  Good luck!  My surgery is on Monday . . .. no turning back now!

I could do the Isopure clear drinks (I think they call them Zero Carb) - at least I could do the fruit punch one.  But only if it was really cold or poured over ice.  Otherwise the after-taste was daunting!

My favorite:  Unjury Chocolate Splendor and Unjury Chicken Soup flavor. I've also used their vanilla and added in additional SF flavors and it was good!  With anything, I would get sample packets first and try them before investing in an entire container of the stuff.

Sara, I just started my pre-op diet yesterday for a surgery date of 9-4 (VSG). I use the Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein Powder(chocolate). My dietitian approves of it & you can get it at Wal-mart for $18.00 for a big jug. And 1 scoop has 30g of protein. It reminds me of the nestle quick mix. I add a teaspoon of PB2 into it & it's pretty delicious. I also bought the Farberware Rocket blender at Wal-mart for $17.00 and it works great. I just throw it all into the cup & blend it for 5-10 seconds & it is all ready to go and the only thing to clean is the cup I drink out of & the blade(which you can run under water). So for less than $40.00 I am pretty much set up for about a month. Thay also have different flavors like vanilla, strawberry & chocolate-peanut butter. Good luck....you have many choices out there! :)
