DexaFit Testing - RMR, VO2, BodyFat%

I went in yesterday for a full on metabolic testing.  It was super interesting and very informative.  I wasn't super surprised by any of the results, but am glad to know rather than just kind of guessing.

My results:

  • 29.9% body fat -- smack dab at average.  They recommend getting to 24% for ideal which would mean losing 11 lbs of fat
  • RMR - 1627 calories.  I burn this just by laying in a chair all day.  Since I haven't been losing weight, I'm pretty sure that my portion sizes have creeped up.  I should probably strictly weigh measure for a bit just so I am tracking more accurately.
  • VO2 max - 38.7 -- this equates to an excellent fitness level (woohoo!!).  I did this a few years ago and was either low or fair.

I'm still pretty content.  I think this did help me realize that I do want to indeed lose the last 10 lbs.  So I'm going to work on reigning in the evening sugar a bit.

These tests are cool.  I may do it again before my surgery in November, but will for sure do it again once I am recovered from my plastics.

How do the determine the RMR? Based on BF% or is there a way to calculate what our bodies burn (after the metabolism killing yo-yo dieting)

It's based on oxygen in vs oxygen co2 out.  I was hooked  up to this thing measuring my breath in and out for about 15 minutes.

That's interesting!  I don't know your exact weight, but by dividing the 1627 by 170, that's 9.5 calories per pound. That's pretty good!  You can use that number to find out your stay-alive calories at any weight. I had my RMR done and I'm an 8-per-pound person.

Forewarned is forearmed!
