Has anyone had any experience with SIBO and weight gain?
Hi all,
I have been struggling with some digestive issues for a while. Back in January, I started bloating without explanation, no matter what I ate (I follow a Paleo diet and have Celiac's disease), and gaining weight, despite a clean diet and a lot of exercise. Around March, I had my ovary removed and a tummy tuck (at the same time) as the dr found a cyst on my ovary that she thought was causing the bloating. Well, fast forward to now and I'm still having the same issues except the bloating has gotten even worse and I have gained even more. I've been to so many doctors and recently found an article on SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth) that I took to my GI dr. He gave me the medication to treat SIBO and I've been on it for 2 days now. My bloating has definitely gotten better, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with "curing" SIBO and subsequent weight loss. I am ready to pull my hair out -- I am on SUCH a restrictive diet and I Crossfit, teach spin, etc. and the weight is STILL not coming off. I keep a food journal of what I ate and how I felt when I ate it because of the bloating/stomach upsetness. I have been tested for ovarian cancer, recently had an upper endoscopy and had tons of blood work done (my vitamin D was abnormal, but that's it). Any advice or previous experience would be extremely helpful.
Thanks in advance!
I dont know what to say but just wanted to tell you I LOOVVVEE you and miss you!

Hi,
A roller coaster is definitely the best way to describe it. I've been through so many rounds of antibiotics and was FINALLY starting to feel better and I deviated a little bit from my normal chicken, zucchini, occasional banana routine and had a flare up. I'm still working on it, and the weight loss is happening but it is VERY slow.
Check out this blog post. I've been taking the colostrum she recommends for about a month and I find that it helps a lot. I also started taking Prescript Assist probiotics and that has helped a ton -- I started these after my last round of antibiotics to get the good bacteria colonized again.

Best of luck. Keep me posted. It's a terrible process.
hi, I'm actually going thru the same issue, I was just diagnosed with SIBO and the past three months I have had weight gain, I'm a creature of habit and have been eating the same for years and managed to keep between 135-140 and now I'm 150. I have no explanation for the weight gain so I'm hoping that once this SIBO is under control I will start to see a weight loss, I was just wondering if you have seen any weight loss since you have been treated?
Yep, your story sounds super similar to mine. I'm on a really restrictive diet that I have deviated from recently (mentally, it's driving me crazy to eat baked chicken, zucchini, and an occasional banana) and have noticed a flare up. However, after many rounds of antibiotics and if I'm on the super strict diet eating what I should, I'm losing weight but it's slow. I've got to get myself mentally back to where I was so I can get this 7-10lbs off for good. It's a tough journey -- physically and mentally.
This girl's story is almost identical to my own... right down to the pictures. I've found her to be a great resource. Check it out and let me know what you think. If you ever want to talk or share coping stories, let me know. http://www.highonfat.com/home/how-i-healed-my-leaky-gut
