It's going to be hard to contain myself but, that seems like very solid, sensible advice - thanks!

Good advice!! I was soooo jazzed when I was in 16/18 from some 30/32 tops, 28 pants. I bought a ton of stuff. I wasn't in that size more than a month... some never got the tags taken off.

Aim for things that can be easily altered (skirts, shirts that would look cute belted, button tops that could be a jacket when you drop a size.)

TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Macy's clearance racks were my favorite stops. It was a NSV too to find stuff... oh and Costco of all places has great deals.

If you have a support group and can swap stuff or host an exchange that might help.

Do treat yourself to new sneakers... it's dangerous to run or walk in shoes too big and with all the exercising you want to be safe every step (literally) of the way.

Another thing I would recommend:  find a good tailor.  You will find pieces that you love that can be altered.

I refuse to do used clothing.  EVER.  But that's me.

I will, however, shop for things on crazy good sale, and at places that have rewards programs.

My philosophy on clothes buying is buy things of good quality that will last and that are classically styled.  I'd rather do that than constantly make trips to Target or Old Navy for things that won't last.  But that's just how I have always been.  It's easier to be more choosy now that I'm no longer buying exclusively plus sizes.

Listen to Stacy she knows what she is saying.... I started an 18 ....3 and 1/2 months ago and now I'm a size 9 and it's getting a bit bigger. .. I have not bought 1 pair of pants I don't own a single pair (except 2 pair of exercise Capri biking pants) I've only showed at H & M and i get little skirts 2 for 10$ and shirts 2 for 10$  and only reason I'm doing that is for work.... it does help me that my husband was in retail and he had bought a bunch of stuff that was way to small for me years ago in size med and 9 or 10 so I've had some of that also... when I get to where I want to be 20 lbs more. . I'll then go out and get my new wardrobe! !!!! :-)

I am lucky in a way I wear the same thing every day. Black kitchen pants, black tshirt, black socks and black boxers.

Pants went from tailored fit to baggy but they have a drawstring and baggy chefs pants are pretty common. I however replace the tshirts at walmart for 3.58 each. I've replaced shirts twice in the last 5 weeks. I buy a weeks supply wear em once then wash em in ho****er and dry on a long hot cycle to shrink em.

I'd like to reiterate I buy cotton so it will shrink. I used to avoid 100% cotton for that reason.

I rent jackets for my whole crew from a linen service. I just cancel a size periodically and order a new size.
