What does a year feel like?
One year with hope and trepidation I started this amazing journey. Many would say I was too old to do this. I am here to tell you I was not. I am presently 64 years old and have not felt this good i years. My starting weight was 212 . I am presently 135. I would like to lose a few more pounds but i am at my goal.
These are my truths:
- surgery was relatively easy compared to my previous bilateral bunionectomies. I had no pain post op and was given and abdominal block prior to surgery. I was given extra medication for nausea in the surgi center and it was no problem after that. I had my surgery outpatient and had no problems with that.
- I had the normal clear liquids for two days, full liquids for a week and half, soft to solid food progression.
- my weight loss was steady. Even today I eat 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of dense protein. My restriction is good. I drink fluids like it is my job and always make sure I have my protein. I drink one shake everyday and will have an extra one if I am low. I eat anything but pretty much stick to my basic plan. I will eat jun****asionally but try to not do that all the time as it is a slippery slope.
- I weigh myself daily to keep honest. 3 lbs up is my limit and I try to stop it there. So far that has worked for me.
- I have a 2 year old grandson who I take car of 8 days a month and believe me it is a miracle that I can keep up with him. Don't worry about weight training, chase and lift a 2 year old.
I did not lose my hair. My hair is short now by choice. It looked too much longer as I lost weight.
- my legs and feet do not hurt. Yay!
- I wear a size 10-12 petite and can order clothes on line and know they will fit. I have some extra skin but not too bad for an older gal.
- When I see my before pictures I wonder why I did not see how heavy I was. I was expert in lying to myself.
- I started my own business and left my job of 23 years. I am excited and happy to do new things. I took my life savings to do this.
- I have had the foamies but not often. I try to undereat my sleeve - thanks Frisco. I do eat Fit popcorn for snacks.
- newbies- research this surgery and if it is right for you, go for it.
- I can't seem to post pictures here but they are in my profile.
Advice: Be prepared- that is when you get blindsided.
Thanks to you all on this board. It has been a tremendous help to me. I am not the meeting type of person. This has been my support group.

Oh, Nancy, you pretty, happy looking thing, you! So well done. Am proud to be part of an older set-o-strong, determined women (yah, and some distinguished gentlemen) who have, over the last year or so, simply blasted their sleeve potential for all it's worth. Congratulations on your year-I bow in your general direction. bonnie
