Abstinence Day 1

Hi everyone!

I have really been struggling.  I am a food addict.  I have been working on it, but it flares up worse once I start and in time of stress.  I really need to avoid sugar at all costs.  It is my heroin.  :(  I just don't think moderation for me in terms of sugar is really possible.

Well today is my day 1 of abstinence.  I'm going to an OA meeting tonight.  I hope tomorrow is day 2 for me.  I plan to keep posting on here daily to have some accountability.  Here is my plan for the day -- I'll come back tomorrow with how I did and my plan for tomorrow.

B - denny's - chicken sausage & egg whites -- I did have a couple of bites of my sons pancakes.  I almost let this derail me for the entire day.  I actually drove into a dunkin donuts drive through on the way home, but came to my senses and backed out before doing anything crazy

S - chike

L - turkey burger w/ brussel sprouts

S - veggie burger salad

D - chicken cordon blue w/ brussel sprouts

S - turkey burger or greek yogurt

good for you that you backed out of drive threw. Take one day at a time.

Good luck! I think you are on the right track taking it day by day. I adore sugar. Anything cookies, cake,  candy you name it. When I think of the overall picture that I cannot eat my favorites anymore it can be bothersome. But like you if I take it one day at a time I feel like I have better control over it.  Not easy but doable!

Since I was sleeved one month ago I am REALLY beginning to realize that mind over matter is a real thing. I am a baker and the past couple of days have made over 100 sugar cookies with yummy icing for a baby shower. I have not so much as licked a finger. The old me would have polished off SO many of those cookies.

Take it day by day. You can do this!  Post daily I think that will help.

Best of luck to you!!

I totally get you. I have the same problem and have a just one bite mentality.  I can go weeks without a problem and then months fighting it every step of the way.  OA is awesome and I've been thinking of going back after 20 years.  I do not want to backslide now that the weight loss stage is almost over!

Stacy,

I'm on the same boat with you. Four months out from surgery for me and this issue i****ting hard right now. We have had a long weekend vacation or out of town family event every month for the past few months...Saturday we leave for a week at the beach. It's really difficult to turn down the treats when away from home, at least for me.

I have no words of wisdom for you on this challenge, but I do commend you on the great success you have had so far on your journey!

Thank you everyone!

After getting home from the near sugar fest of dunkin donuts I made myself a chike and headed to the gym.  Very quickly I became overwhelmed with emotions -- stress, anxiety, excitement.  This is what I was trying to cover up with the food.  I wasn't even aware, I just knew I wanted food.  Once I got past the moment, I was able to feel everything.  It wasn't the most pleasant, but I think it is important that I do feel these things instead of covering up.

Therapy seems to be working!  Now I just need to get through the rest of today!

Awesome job, Lady!  You denied the urge and felt the emotions....that's brilliant!

Only processed sugar.  I can eat fruit & sweet potatoes without problem.  Ice cream, cookies, cakes etc. are the prob.
