Before surgery with the help of Metformin for PCOS, my cycle was regular.  I am 3 months out from surgery and my cycle couldn't be farther from normal.  I don't know if it's from hormone changes due to weight loss or from not taking the Metformin.  I use Nuva Ring for birth control and even with the ring, I bled 3 weeks out of the last 4.

YES to the first question - hopeing NOT to for the second LOL. I had PCOS since my first maxi pad purchase LOL. I was never regular and always had to be on birth control to regulate. The past 3 months have been a blessing! I have gotten my period every 30 days..and I love it...and I love it more when the naproxen sets in LOL.

My issue is i am NOT trying to get pregnant. I have 2 other kids and had 2 c-sections. Im done.

LADIES BE CAREFUL, MY NUTRITIONIST AND SURGEON TOLD US THAT U BECOME MORE FERTILE WHEN U LOSE A LARGE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT. SO FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT TRYING TO GET PREGNANT AFTER WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY. USE PROTECTION X 2 OR 3 OR 4. LOL

I have always had very irregular periods... Even before I got anywhere near my HW. I just wasn't ever regular! I would go for months without one and then when I did get it, it would last for up to 15-16 weeks at a time until I would become anemic and have to take meds to get it to stop (that only happened once... I wasn't crazy enough to go through that more than the one time!) Now, since losing the weight, I've had periods MUCH more often. I haven't really tracked them, but I have definitely had one at least every 6 weeks since about Thanksgiving. And they aren't prolonged or ridiculously heavy! They do get pretty heavy still, but nothing like I've experienced in the past.

All that to say this... Hormone changes post WL is a very real thing. I death with PMDD for years and was on antidepressants for it for ages. Now, I don't need them because my hormones are no longer out of whack!

As far as getting pregnant post op, BE AWARE that when you are in rapid weight loss (i.e. the first 6-7 months post op), your hormones will be raging. Mood swings and the works... That also means that you will be VERY fertile. Hormones are stored in fat cells and when we lose weight quickly, those hormones are dumped into our bloodstream. If you read on here often enough, you will likely read posts where people talk about "hormone dumping." It's a very real phenomenon and something to be aware of.
