Obeying the Traffic Laws
So yesterday I was driving home from visiting a friend who will be sleeved next week. I was thinking fondly of my own weight loss experience and specifically the joy of reaching goal weight. My doctor complemented me and said "you have worked really hard". I told him I didn't feel like I had worked that hard; that I had just followed the instructions I had been given. Thinking of this conversation while driving made me think of how much the weight loss journey is like taking a long drive. If you obey the speed limit, don't run red lights, stop at stop signs, signal turns and all the things most of us do pretty automatically while we drive, we arrive safely and on time.
But if we drive through train crossings, speed through red lights, weave in and out of lanes, talk on the phone or (horrors) drink, we are likely to get into trouble which is potentially life threatening.
So think of your doctor or nut's plan as a set of traffic laws that you need to follow for your own good and the good of everyone around you. It fits in to the journey analogy and maybe if you look at that cookie and think "Red Light, I must Stop" it will help you get to your goal.

Great comparison Diane. Thanks for the imagery :)
