Crankiness ... is this resentment?
One strategy I am experimenting with in dealing with "food resentment" is that I am increasingly giving over the responsibility of treat/desert making /buying/ storing to those who are going to be eating it. If I make-buy-clean up- put away--somehow I feel I should be able to-or deserve to have some. Some turns into too much. If I am out of the loop, so to speak, then the "stuff" isn't mine. this helps me disassociate from it and keep out of it. I know this is just a mind thing- an attitude- but it works pretty well. If I don't "own" it, it's not mine to take.

If your family members are overweight and you are concerned about their well-being, just be a good example for them to follow. Do not preach!!

When I'm getting cranky or start getting cravings for things I don't typically eat, it's usually because I'm tired. A short nap re-sets me.
I've always given myself a bit of leeway on vacation. Not going hog-wild, but not beating myself up because I had a frozen yogurt cone or (insert your poison of choice). I've found it incredibly easy to get back on plan and into my normal routine once I'm home. In fact, I look forward to it towards the end of vacation.

Your family is awesome for understanding! To be honest when it's my time of the month I want chocolate soo bad! I will eat a few chocolate chips with toasted soy butter(peanut allergy) you can't beat yourself up about it. It's like o.k. Now that cravings gone then I won't over eat something worse that I don't even want in the first place.
Oh yes! I definitley have those moments. It was worse when I was in weightloss mode. We went on vacation to Disneyland in my 3 mos post-op and I packed my turkey jerky, cheese sticks and celery to eat while walking around the park. My family continually wanted my snacks on top of their junk they got in the park! It is difficult and you are doing a great job, you will get through it. Maintenance will be just as challenging though because you justify splurging because you have reached your goal. It is something most of us will always struggle with. Wish you the best on your weightloss challenges!
