Four days out, how much exercise?

YAY!! Welcome to the journey to healthier living! For the first few weeks, you need to take it easy. You will be tired due to just having a major surgery. Yes, you do need to walk as often as you can but you also need to rest as much as you can. If you're tired, then take a nap. You can walk again when you wake up. For the first 2 weeks, I just walked up and down my street once or twice, depending on how I was feeling, several times a day. And I rested plenty in between. At week 3, I was going to the gym and walking the treadmill and doing a little on the elliptical. The main thing you need to worry with right now is getting in your fluids to keep from getting dehydrated and then walking to get that gas moving and out. Good luck to you on your new journey!!

Congrats... Listen to your body as it is healing.  You need to walk as much as possible and sip, sip, sip... If our tired take a nap. Take it easy and you will be just fine.  Its about 2-3 weeks before you will start to feel normal again. Good Luck!

I think you are best served by trying to hit your fluid and protein goals and resting, with gentle walking.  I'm a week out and my energy is coming back.  My walk breaks were brief this week.  I didn't do much more than the equivalent of walking around hospital.  I just didn't have the energy.  If I'm not mistaken, the walking is to prevent blood clots, to "burp" yourself, as my doctor put it, and to just get up an move around.  I went and walked a few circles in the empty garage a few times.

I basically just increased my distance every day.  So if I walked 1 block on the first day, I went 2 blocks on the next day, and 3 the following day... and kept at that until I could walk a mile.  Then I switched to the gym's treadmill and did 15 minutes and increased it by 5 minutes every day until I reached 60 minutes.  And ever since I've just been working on increasing my speed/distance.

Just keep adding a little more :)

(I was only allowed to walk for the first 6 weeks.  No elliptical, no biking, no running, no weights, etc.  Just walking.)
