Sick of clear liquids...
I've read about how taste buds change, and I wonder if that's what I'm experiencing. I can't even think about the sweetness of these protein shakes. I have samples of every brand and they are all disgustingly sweet to me. I had a little UnJury chicken broth tonight which was good, but other than that I feel like I'm out of options. I am sick of chicken and beef broth, I can still stand veggie broth. All of the crystal light I bought all sounds gross. I brewed some decafe tea and added a stevia and that's what I've sipped on all day. My follow up appt is Monday. Sugar free Popsicles are ok, but no protein.
Any suggestions?
thanks, Renee

How long are you on clear liquids for?
I started clear liquids the same afternoon as surgery, this past Tuesday the 6th. I will be on clear liquids until my follow up on Monday, then onto full liquids for a week, then purée for a week, then soft foods for a week.
I was on a 3 day pre-op clear liquid plus protein shake diet.

I feel for you - I was only on clears in the hospital!
I would really work on focusing on fluids right now and if the protein doesn't get there, oh well. Try watering down the shakes, that might help? Try different temperatures of liquids?

Celestial seasonings has a decaf chai tea that I drink. I add skim milk to it for protien.
So much of the first few weeks is just sheer pull yourself up by your brastraps and get through it. It's tough. Right now I feel if I have to chew another chicken breast in to oblivion I will spontaneously combust, spewing chicken mush everywhere.
You'll get through this! Onward!
I was on clear fluids for 2 weeks..I really enjoyed lower sodium better than boullion in the beef flavor. It was very soothing to my new tiny tummy. I added a bit of chili garlic to it to spice it up. I was pretty meh about tea...but it kept my fluids up..which is the most important thing right now..64oz of fluid per day..that's really the point of the clear fluid stage..to allow your new tummy to heal and to keep hydrated. I don't think surgeons much care about how much you like it or not, it was part of the price of having this amazing surgery LOL
Cheer up...it came to pass, it hasn't come to stay.

eta: I didn't read your post very closely apparently, as I didn't understand that you were still only allowed clear liquids. It seems to me that if you're drinking UnJury chicken both and protein drinks, you would be able safely to stomach the options I've been trying, too. Just a thought, and you might run them by your doctor tomorrow to see if you can have a little more variety to help you out over the weekend.
So I'm on Day 8, and like you, can have cream soups in addition to the clear liquid items I could have the first couple days out, and I thought I'd pass along a really good option that I've come across. I found a cream of chicken soup that had no lumps or bumps at all, but a reasonable protein level--12g: Healthy Valley Cream of Chicken Soup which I found at Whole Foods.
Also a nice change from the sweet protein drinks are Amy's Soups. Tonight I'm having half a can of Organic Butternut Squash Soup, and while the protein is negligible, 2g/serving (so I still have to drink at least 20g of protein this evening), it's still a welcome change of taste, and great on the calories, too. I've also tried Amy's Chunky Tomato (pureed), and that was awesome!
Try some of these, Renee, and let me know if they suit you. All best.
I completely understand how you're feeling. I could not stand the protein drinks! Post op, I was on clear liquids for 10 days. And I was so sick of broth and popsicles!!! But I toughed through it and was so very grateful to be released to be able to have cream soups and pureed foods! So, needless to say, I didn't have any protein for the first 10 days and was able to get more in once moved to pureed. My doctor was mainly worried about my hydration for the first few weeks, not my protein.
