Really great post, Happy Teacher!
I wish I would have seen a post like this in my first month or two post op. I felt like I was going crazy somedays where I'd read forums that basically said parts of my surgeons plan was setting me up for failure or is the wrong way to do it, etc. I figured it out on my own, but it really made me feel unnecessary anxiety sometimes.
Like someone else mentioned this should be re-posted every so often.
I will try to remember to bump the post every so often. I experienced a terrible amount of anxiety over this during my first two months and was subjecting myself to low blood sugar episodes trying to do the low carb approach. In life, I am one to identify succusful vets doing whatever it is that I am working on... and follow that lead. In the first two months this was a very heavy burden on me emotionally as a result. I do not fault the vets that had the strongest voices for this... it was truly something that I needed to figure out. But I worry for folks who may not be as resilient or lacks the tremendous amount of family support that I have. I think particularly between months 2-3 it is easy to think that you will be the one that fails- even if what you are doing is working. There is such a temptation to assume newly preop that because surgery was done a LARGE amount of weight should just disappear, and if that doesn't happen it is indicative of failure. I also think that the voices on the boatd sometimes can "drown out" what you hear in the doctor's office. Afterall, many of us read here daily but only see the doc every so often. But this post is about much more than just being low carb or not, a certian sleeve size, whatever. It is intended to balance all of the options- rny versus ds versus sleeve, etc. There are just so many different options and combinations of surgeries plus plans that can be effective for people- if it is well matched to the individual.
