I'm so glad to hear that you're doing so well after surgery. I had breast cancer in 2005. I have a mammo once per year & alternate with an MRI & surgeon visit for physical exam, so I'm with being squished, looked inside of, or felt up every 4 months. My genetic counselor suggested a preventative double mastectomy. I'm still on the fence. One thing I did learn in '05 is that attitude is everything. Keep your head up and continue to kick cancer's ass!!!

Consider the prophylactic mastectomy.  Truly, the surgery is not that bad.  I am shocked that they put me on a 4 week medical- I feel like I could go back next week.  Anyway, I went this route because i was quite certian i could either prevent, or react... react is worse since probably it is still a double mastectomy and on top of that the chemo and radiation.  Here's to skipping chemo and radiation!  If what the final result looks like, I would encourage you to look up images online.  The reconstruction looks fantastic- better than what i looked like going into surgery since I lost several cup sizes and had tons of droop.  I totally recommend it!!

I agree with getting the double mastectomy.  I only needed one side done with my cancer, but chose to have both done.  It sure beats looking over your shoulder all the time for it to hit the other side!  The reconstruction they do is amazing, and there is a tattoo artist in Maryland who does the 3D tattoos, and will even do a nipple ring that looks real!

Who would have thought there would be a positive from a double mastectomy?  No loose skin?  And covered by insurance?  WIN.

I'm glad to hear that you made it through and are feeling little pain.  Rest, relax and heal.
