Rah! Head Hunger!
I think it "goes away" temporarily post-op, but those old habits are the head work you have to do in order to be successful long-term. I don't know about you, but I have decades of experience using food for comfort, celebration, and probably some other functions in my life. That snickers bar will raise my serotonin levels and provide a pleasant distraction from whatever is going on in my life, and it's a coping strategy I use at almost a subconscious level. It has nothing to do with hunger. Surgery doesn't fix that. There are all sorts of factors that help keep you on the straight and narrow in those first months - fear, exhilaration, lack of ghrelin, the daily scale rewards, the thrill of smaller sizes, the compliments, the self-confidence, and a bunch of others. But eventually, all of that fades somewhat, and you're back to "normal" life. You need new habits and coping strategies to support you in staying on track. Sounds like you're already on the right track - a good workout is an awesome stress reliever, and self-reflection is an important tool in changing counter-productive ingrained thought patterns. It's hard work, but essential.
