No complications. No regrets with the sleeve.

I having had both and have stated every time you have asked, the sleeve is much better than the band.  I only had the band as the sleeve wasn't a choice back than for me.  The band causes many issues as you have read on the band boards.  The sleeve is 100 times better than my band every was.  Restriction right out of surgery, no fills unfills, no slips or erosion.

The sleeve is just so much better than the band.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Thanks for your replies the reason why I ask this question I only heard one complaint a leakage. She was in the hospital for 3 months pretty sick.  I guess leaks are rare I wanted to hear all the bad with the sleeve like I did with the band. People was irrate with me just thinking about getting the band. I know the sleeve is better than the band. I am afraid of having a leak with the sleeve and having a slip band etc. I will not ask the same question just a lot of questions my life depends on making the right choice. I can't have no surgery that involve my intestine because of scare tissues etc. Thank you for your reply

I didn't have any complications.

All of the bariatric programs/hospitals in my area no longer do lapband surgery.

FYI- Any type of surgery comes with possible complications.  It is not unique to just WLS.

I did a lot of research, going back and forth between the two, and the sleeve is definitely a better choice for maintaining weight loss from what I've found. Yes, the sleeve is a little more invasive, but once you are healed from the surgery, there is no monthly maintenance like there is with the band. I also know quiet a few people who have been banded- they have lost minimal weight and all have some issue, either with food getting stuck on a daily basis or erosion/ slippage issues. You will see a lot of people get a revision from the band to the sleeve because of problems, so why not just start with the sleeve. Of course, there are other things to consider with your health care team, but just wanted to let you know what I found. Good luck!

I have had zero complications (unless you count some acid problems) with my sleeve.  I have a cousin with the band and a former colleague with it...and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

There are people on here who have done well with it...but the bad stories and complications far outweigh the positive ones.

I had the sleeve, no complications. I've personally known about 4 other people with the sleeve and only one had complications. My surgeon was spectacular (RIP) and as long as you have confidence in your surgeon, the surgery should be a breeze. In general, complications are just a statistical thing... luck of the draw.

At your BMI, the Band shouldn't even be on the table. What you should be deciding between are the Sleeve or the DS (duodenal switch.) Both have the same smaller yet still fully-functional stomach, but the DS also has an intestinal bypass that causes permanent malabsorption of a significant per centage of the calories you eat, especially calories from fat. The DS is the form of WLS with the very best long-term, maintained weight-loss stats for patients of any size, especially so for those of us with a BMI of 50 or greater.
