When to try lettuce?

One school of thought says don't waste your time on it.  First, it can bind you up and create a blockage, hence some of the comments above where the dr instructed them to wait a while.  But second, lettuce in the wrong form is mostly water and nutritionally deficient, so don't fill your pouch with it.  Takes up space better used for other options.

That said, the jury seems inconsistent on the subject of lettuce.  Certainly things like spinach give a nice nutrient bang for the buck, so there's value there.  Some docs sempervivum okay with it.

Personally, I skip it due to the space issue.  I'd rather get my protein in then use broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and carrots for veggies.  Getting in lettuce doesn't seem worth the effort.

Yeah.. the space issue is definitely one I've got in the back of my head, but I can't help but thinking that lettuce would make a good wrap some day.  Dreaming, eh? :)

I think it could do well for that.  Frisco is constantly torturing us with proof via his food porn.  LOL

They make great "tacos" and also asian lettuce wraps...but you just have to make sure your sleeve can handle it.  Start slowly, when you feel comfortable and your doctor is ok with it, and see what happens.

I am three months out and had a small salad at a restaurant last Saturday.  Big mistake.....stomach ache at the restaurant if you know what I mean.  I have eaten a couple bites before without a problem but on Saturday I had a small bowl...I guess it was too much.

I had to post on this one.  I am 11 months out and can still not eat lettuce.  It doesn't hurt or make me sick in any way, but it fills me quickly to the point I cannot get nurtrients in, so I just don't get to enjoy salad anymore.

HOwever, you stated that your problem is diareah.  Eggs gave me bad stmach aches and bowl issues before surgery and still the same after.  If your body cannot tolerate it now, it probably won't change.

I'm just hopeful that since this was a relatively new change in my life (not being able to digest greens), that it might go away. I am the eternal optimist and I miss my Swiss Chard! :D

Unfortunately, I'm almost a year out and still can't eat lettuce.  Terrible gas pains.

I was not able to eat lettuce until about 5 months out. It did not agree with my new stomach. I don't eat much of it even now because I use that space for other things. Cabbage doesn't bother me though.
