I analyzed my plateau

So I was one of those people who lost 40 lbs in a month and the euphoria from that is amazing. I didn't lose another lb for the last 2 weeks and I was frantic. I know that plateaus are to be expected but I immediately went to "this surgery is not going to work for me and I'm the only one it won't work for". Anyway, as I gave myself the negative self tal****pt up with the diet plan as best I could because I'm still early out and sometimes I don't get in all that I plan to consume. I chalk this up to better to under eat than to overeat right?

Anyway, I woke up this morning and I had a breakthrough. I lost 5 lbs and I felt great so then I started thinking about how terrifying those 2 weeks were. Logically I know that I couldn't continue to lose the way that I was in the very first month but it was the unknown of when will I get moving again that freaked me out.  I thought some more and realized that it's knowing that for all of us we have similar stories of start a diet, stop a diet and gain and lose. We'v also been going great on  a diet only to plateau and give up in the past and I think that it's this fear of the past that gets us so out of shape during a plateau. I know it was for me. I really thought for a moment there that this was going to be just like the other diets. The only difference this time is that I had to remember that I wasn't on a diet. I was just living the way I now choose to live and guess what the scale did move. I didn't go eat something I shouldn't and I didn't try to self sabotage. I just decided to live my new life and I got moving again.

P.S. I even fought the urge to make a post asking for help to break said plateau.

At first I thought I was having plateaus,  Then I realized it's my body's way of losing weight. I don't lose or even gain half a pound for almost a week,  Then the scale drops a couple one morning. I didn't like it at first,  but now I'm used to it. I lost probably 30lbs the first month and this month so far I'm down about 11 with two more weeks to go.

And yes,  we will definitely lose the weight/inches if we stick to the plan!

Congrats on your great progress so far!

Crazy how this happens and just throws us off track. It's great that you realize how you lose because it will definitely help you stay the course

I lose the same way.  I feel like that is why I have struggled for the last 20 years with weight.  When you join Lindora, weigh****chers, Jenny etc. I would see everyone losing 3-4 lbs every week and then there is me..... same for 2 weeks then may be a pound if lucky.  That is when I would throw in the towel each time.  Now, no more towel throwing , no panic.  After this surgery and consuming 300-450 calories a day I have realized that is just my body and it is NOT my fault.  I had a big light bulb moment yesterday morning.  I had surgery on 3/3 and have only lost 8 lbs.   Not much I can do about that but keep on trucking on and just accept it for what it is.

OMG, I remember those dreaded weigh ins at weigh****chers and how I'd feel when after working the program all week I didn't lose a pound. I'd sit in those meetings and listen to so many people say what worked for them each week and how much they were losing and I'd feel so bummed. Like a failure even. Well no more of that for me

It's easy to know about plateaus, and how normal they are in weight loss, and different to experience them for yourself! I expect when it's my turn I'll be panicking too :) Be proud of yourself, stick to plan, and the weight loss will catch up. You are an inspiration, I love reading your posts!

You've hit the nail right on the head Dizzybell. Knowing it and experiencing it is a totally different thing. I totally panicked and the self talk was horrible. This journey is about so much more than weightloss, it's about resetting your brain and the way you interact with yourself.

Hi: I am at the same spot as you, down 40 lbs, 5 weeks out, but today not one pound, oh well in time it will start again, not to worry. Inches are coming off like crazy, pants falling, down to med shirt from 3 XL, bat wings, shoes slipping off easy, sleeping like a baby, walking 2 miles, drinking H2O, shakes, soft foods. Life is good.

Lets keep going we'll get there.

God Bless
