My daughter said the cutest thing tonight

So I'm about 2 and half weeks out and to be honest I've been struggling with liquid/water intake. It's been a little frustrating that I haven't made my 60 oz fluid one day since I've been home (that's my goal until follow up). Every time I try to eat purees or drink the gross protein shake that I used to love pre op I get the hiccups and start burping and just give up. Basically I've been surviving on water and vitamins and the occasional broth. So tonight I was so week that I asked my mom to make some of her awesome chicken soup and put some potatoes in it and I told her that I will mush out half the potato with some of the broth and see how I do with that. As I began to eat my 3 1/2 year old says to me "mommy you have to be very careful and you have to go really slow". She then takes her spoon and slowly takes a sip and say "see, you have to do it like this otherwise you're going to get the hiccups and the burpy burpies". I couldn't help it but to give her a big hug and laugh because my pumpkin was looking out for her mommy. This just shows that even though they are small they are paying close attention.

PS: I did pretty good with the piece of potato drenched in broth to make it like applesauce. First real "meal" I've had since surgery even though I could only do a quarter of the potato. At least I don't feel so weak now

That is such a cute story about your daughter!  Reminds me of my daughter when I was pregnant with her little brother.  Having morning sickness, I used to toss my cookies every morning, and she would mimic that. She was 2-1/2 years old. So funny!

Hope it gets easier for you!

Sweetie- you are still so very early out, and learning your way.  Did the soup broth go down well?  Ok- that counts as liquid.  Nothing wrong with straining the soup to clear broth and drinking it hot/warm all day long as part of your hydration.  As to the potato- doesn't help much with nutrition- just fills the tummy.   Look to soft proteins to give you that full feeling.  Your daughter is Precious- what a gift of love and caring she gave- Her lesson is an invaluable one- be mindful, and take it slowly.  What a treat!  Mine are all grown- you wouldn't happen to have a "lender" you could send me?   :).
