Esophageal spasms are a B***h
So I begin having this horrible pain in the center of my chest and it comes and goes. Sometimes it's not too bad and other times it feels like I'm being stabbed with a two edged dagger. I immediately called the surgeon. He gets on the phone and w go over all the things that could be going on...no fever, sweats, vomiting, chills, nothing really besides the stabbing pain...final diagnosis - esophageal spasms. Apparently they happen and can be quit a stinker. So now I'm back to clear warm liquids until it passes. God these things hurt.
Your surgeon should be able to prescribe an antispasmodic for you! I used a drug called Levsin immediately post op for several months and it worked WONDERS. It was a teeny little pill that I dissolved under my tongue. I couldn't have functioned without it some days.
