I posted Thursday night that I was competing at the CA State Games in San Diego today. Well, I had a blast. I won a silver medal for my technical program, and a gold medal for my dramatic spotlight program. The ice parade and torch ceremony was also pretty cool. It was a long day, 3 hours each way of driving in pouring rain, two programs that were skated about an hour apart, the ceremony, and a nice dinner with DH. I am tired, but so happy that I can participate in a sport that I love. A dear OH member on the lightweights forum told me before my first competition that "to compete is to win." The medals are just a nice bonus.

Awesome! Great job!  Despite the driving/rain/tiredness that must have felt sooooo good.

Fabulous!  Way to go! I like that quote.  I have been debating running a 5K (or 2) in March, but I'm only 1 month out and have a lot of weight to lose, and therefore would probably be one of the last to finish.  But, to compete is to win!

My DH (Mike B.) is a runner. He couldn't run five minutes before his VSG, but he has run a few 5 & 10 K's, 5 half marathons, and is training for his first full marathon. He will run the OC on 5/4. There are a lot of runners on the different OH forums, they all started somewhere. So, go for it. If you have to walk part of it, oh well, at least you'll be doing it. I saw a t-shirt at a race once, it said "I may be slow, but I'm lapping everyone on the couch."
