X-Post, next skating competition in San Diego 3 weeks away
Well, I decided at the last minute (signed up on the deadline day) to compete at the California State Winter Games in San Diego. This meant that I only had a little over 3 weeks to practice my new program. I have moved up a level, and I feel rushed. If I do place in the top 3, I will have earned the right to compete at the national competition next year.
What does this have to do with my VSG? Well, without the gift of my VSG, competitive recreational figure skating would not be possible. Now for those who may read this who are newer, the surgery alone will not get you to goal. It takes a solid food and excercise plan. If you are pre-op, post op, or vet, find something you love to stay active, and just do it.
Do you compete with ISI? What level? My daughter has a competition today!

That's great! Good for you. She is at freestyle 3. She is 13. She didn't do that well today. Last month she got a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. She has some carb addiction issues and her weight has gone up again-and her power has gone down. But she is very good and I apparently have had her jumping with skates that don't support jumps. Oops. I just hope she sticks with it. It is a fun skill to have!

Oh that carb monster can be such a pain. Hopefully she can get it under some control and stick with skating. I wish I would have at her age. As for skates, talk to her coach and a tech at a good pro shop to get her upgraded. Yes, it will be expensive, but good equipment can make such a big difference. Tell her that I said train hard and good luck at the next competition. Let me know how it goes.
She skated beautifully today-1st in both performances. I do get skates fitted at a pro shop. She had been in the $200 range skates and should apparently be in the $500. Since her feet are still growing, I split the difference for the $350 ones.
Keep me posted on your events!

That's awesome!
It's great to share stories of fun activities - it's hard to stay motivated (for many) to "just work out" over the long haul, but if you have an activity that is a work-out in itself, then you can stay motivated longer.

Oh, you are so spot on. I can't imagine dragging myself to a gym, but I will drag myself to the rink. I do have to plan it well though, it is an hour away, down a mountain freeway. But, it is worth it.
How is your race going? I read on Facebook yesterday that a lady in the race died when she had a collision with a truck. Please be careful out there.
