I hurt my shoulder before surgery and I'm out of my liquid vicodin :-( . I really need to take some Tylenol or something but the liquid stuff turns my stomach. Has anyone tried chewing tylenol tablets? Im only 5 days out so I'm kind of scared to send anything off the "list" down the hatch!

My surgeon told me that I could take pills as long as they were small and I flushed them through with as much water as I could tolerate. You should call your surgeon and ask. I can't imagine that chewing Tylenol would be any easier on the gag reflex than the liquid would be!

I have chewed Tylenol before. It tastes bad but it's not the worst thing I've ever tasted. If you don't like the taste, put it with a small amount of sugar-free jelly.  I was able to break long tablets in half within about a week.

I have been able to swallow Tylenol and other medicines since I got home. One suggestion I was given was to take them with a warm liquid. One reasonably large swallow seems to do the trick.

After getting the ok from your doc...crush the tylenol and swallow with water (or I swallow with coffee) and you will barely taste it.  Just don't let it linger in your mouth.  To crush, you can use a mortar and pestal (easiest) or a flatbottom thick goffee mug on a paper towel.  the only thing there is the potential of cutting yourself.  Better is a rolling pin on paper towel, then dump into small 1 oz. medicine cup.

I used chewable jr Tylenol for a couple of months post op.  Had to take a bunch to get the right dose, but it worked.
