Litmus test...

Driving home after work with leftover homemade graham crackers and apple butter in the seat next to me.  i'm thinking, 'Boy, am I HUNGRY_ really, for true hungry."  Is it real?   Is it head hunger?  I was able to hold off untill I got home, and did the "protein test". I got out some roast beef- ate about 2 bites, and didn;t want any more.  Conclusion?- At about one year out, head hunger and cravings have returned- (crap!).  What am I to do with them?  Lie to myself and call it hunger and indulge?  or check out the truth of the matter-  If it's REAL hunger, then some protein will suffice-  if Im just jonesing for some carbs- well, then, Nickee's post on "the benifits of deprivation" is something to think about....  I know where old behavior will take me, and I don't want to go back there, ever again.

Good for you for holding out until you got home and thank God for people like you who can teach those of us just learning!

I am impressed with your will power!  I try to keep some nuts in my car if I am really hungry (just be careful--they pack a caloric punch!!).  I used to do jerky but I am now so sensitive to sodium that isn't the best choice for me.  I'm thinking about trying marigold bars--want to talk to my RD about them.

Anyhow, very good insight.  I am going to remember this the next time I think I'm really hungry.  If lean protein doesn't sound good, then maybe I'm not really hungry. :)
