OMG my PCP!
My PCP is really starting to **** me off! I called them yesterday to request the letter from them recommending my surgery so that I could submit to insurance company because they denied my claim due to not having this info. They said ok.
Well today, I called to make sure that they in fact sent it, NO they didn't! Now they want the surgeons office to send them a note stating why he thinks I need the surgery before my PCP will write the letter. This is ridiculous! My PCP knows how damn fat I am and what my BMI is.
What happens if she doesn't want to write it? Lets pray!
Ask your surgeon's insurance specialist to call. Your PCP sounds a little lazy. They should have been the one to recommend you to the surgeon in the first place! See if your surgeon has a "stock" form letter that your PCP can just fill in with your specific details. Mine offered one in my orientation packet. Things will work out! You've just got to do the dance and jump through the hoops. Stay strong!

You could also ask your surgeon if he could recommend a wls friendly pcp to you. When I started my ins. process, we had just moved to a new area and I hadn't even seen a pcp yet! The coaching group I was in had a few people in my area and they rec'd one who was very wls friendly, and she wrote me the letter on my very first visit!
my pcp did not want to refer me I had to insist m they have to refer you to any medical care you want as long as it is medically excepted as long as its legal and considered a safe option
I got the referral then looked for a different pcp , I ask local people on this forum who the use and found a great internist
Went through similar stuff. It took me a week to get them straightened out between the PCP's office and the surgeon's office. I lost a lot of respect for physician staff during that week.
I only got it all resolved by literally driving back and forth between the two offices and hand carrying paperwork in exactly that right format.
Just glad I didn't choke anyone. I wouldn't really do it but the thought crossed my mind a few times. LOL

Although my doctor is very supportive I went in with a pre-typed letter. All she did was fill in my weight, BMI, copied it on her stationary and signed. But since your Doctor is weird about it I would do all that beforehand so all he has to do is sign.
If you want the letter I used, just let me know. Try to do as much as you can on your own and asked them for a copy the records they are sending out so you can have everything and fax them to the insurance company.
