there were times i got desperate so i took a suppository. im almost 4 months post and probably only had to use one 3 times. i was desperate. once u start eating a little more, and are able to drink more water things will "get easier" I feel the constipation was the worse part of the surgery, but it will get better! Good luck!

Hi Shelly,

I hope that the magnesium has already worked for you by the time I type this (by the way you might want to include a magnesium citrate capsule or chewable to your supplement regimen since there is not much magnesium in most multivitamins).

How is your fluid intake? Reading your post made me remember that my nutritionist says adding fiber just makes you more bloated and uncomfortable unless you are getting more than 64 oz of water daily which can be challenging in the first few weeks.

all the best, Katy

consult weight 241 (had not been accurately weighed for over 10 years, my medical records just said "wheelchair") high weight was probably closer to 260.

Quick question and not to get graphic but define constipation. The reason i say this is because we're so used to going a few times a day that we think it's normal but depending on how much you consume you may go a day or two without a bm and it's perfectly safe and natural. Now if it's three days our more I'd go ahead with a laxative. Speaking from experience, research and working in the healthcare field a lot of people think their constipated when really it's just a matter of not having enough waste to pass. There was a great book i read that explained about how the body breaks down different proteins and it actually had a list and percentage of how much the body actually used of a certain food while the rest would be waste. For instance when you an egg, your body burns up and uses 99% of the egg, leavingonly that small1% behind as waste to be passed-which I'd why eggs are a great way to get protein. Book was Crack The Fat Loss Code if your interested. But yeah since we eat so little in the beginning it's perfectly normal to go a day or two with no bm and unless you have pain or discomfort because of this it shouldn't be a problem. Hope this helped.

I still at 7 weeks have a problem with it. Haven't found much that helps, stool softners haven.t ready to try mineral oil.

I'm 7 weeks out and finally resolved the constipation about 2 weeks ago - once I finally was getting my water in. I still have Bi-Polar Bowels for the most part, but I'll take it rather than the constipation. I know well how very hard it is to get your water in, but after a couple of days of working hard to get it in, things started moving more consistently for me. Good luck, it really does get better every day.
