What should maintenance look like?
I hit my goal weight a couple of months ago. I've increased my calories gradually to about 1200. I've crept up to 118 from 115. My Dr. Only says my body will regulate where it needs to be in maintenance. I still have a poochy tummy. The rest of my body is pretty small. I'm happy where I'm at. At first I thought I might get smaller down around 105-110. Right now that doesn't appeal to me since sitting in most chairs is uncomfortable on my only behind, & when I lay down my boney knees rub together. I didn't know being skinny would be so uncomfortable. Those of you in maintenance do you stick to a range? I'm just not sure if I'm doing things right. Maybe I should look at how I feel & what I'm eating & my activity level & forget about what the scale says. How do y'all manage it?
My weight has crept up 3 lbs at the 1200 calorie per day level also. I am coming to realize that I will not be able to average 1200 calories per day unless I exercise more than I am currently. I am not sure why the maintenance calorie requirements for some VSGers is less than the average person. My dr and dietitian have not been able to give me a good scientific answer. I think there is still a lot to learn about post VSG metabolism. You may need to back off to 1100 calories per day and see how that works. As far as your pooch, work on toning it up with exercise. That has really helped me.
Hmm, this has been on my mind as well. I am not at maintenance but I am right around the corner and have started to wonder what I am going to do. I feel like I cannot ask my NUT since she already thinks I should be at 1200 cal a day. I am currently at 700-900. I have a goal weight range of 175-180. i plan on adding calories in 100 at a time until I get to 1200. I plan on making them good calories, not empty calories, meaning lean meats and protein, maybe veggies and fruits. Honestly, I have that plan but no idea if itll work!
