I Get Headaches From Artificial Sweeteners!

I'm sure some of us get a little tired of drinking water, but the problem is, everything diet related seems to have artificial sweeteners in it.  I'd love to be able to drink Crystal Light, but it gives me bad headaches that last for hours.  I'm also concerned about protein powders, because now I hear that they have artificial sweeteners in them too.

What's weird is I don't think I get headaches from the pink packets, like Sweet N' Low, (which is Saccharin), but the yellow packets, like Splenda, (which is Sucralose), does give me headaches.  Crystal Light and Equal contains Aspartame, so I guess I can't handle Sucralose or Aspartame, which seems to be in everything.  I'm sure I'm missing other sweeteners that cause headaches, so if you know their names please let me know what to look out for.

To anyone who gets headaches from these products, have you found anything good that doesn't give you headaches (besides pouring sugary fruit juice in everything)?

Thanks!  :-)

I can't do Aspartame without a headache either.  I can do Splenda in small amounts....but I basically do very little of either. This was something I considered before having the VSG because I knew of my intolerance to artificial sweeteners.   The only sugar I eat is the natural sugar fructose which is in the 1-2oz. of fruit I eat a day and a small amount of Sucralose in the GNC Total Lean shake I drink daily.   I'm sorry that I don't have an answer to your question. Hope you find what your looking for!

That's okay RPick67, it was nice of you to respond!  Maybe someone else will have some guidance for us.  There's lots of smart, experienced people on this board.  :-)

If stevia is okay you could try this: http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Stevia-Water-Enhancer-Variety/dp/B00C1LXBFC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=3INBKEY2WJLXV&coliid=I3FOEB11M5TXFQ

You know, I have Stevia, but the verdict isn't out on that yet for me.  I don't think it gives me a headache, but it does seem to mess with my stomach.  I used to put it in Decaf Coffee, but I can't seem to handle coffee anymore.  It makes my heart race a mile a minute, and that's even with DECAF.  (By the way, I haven't had weight loss surgery yet, so these effects are not from anything to do with post-surgery).  I hope to get everything approved and finalized soon.  Thanks!

This is just something to think about but you maybe like me and artificial sweeteners just don't work for you.  The only thing I drink is water since surgery......I have had very small amounts of PowerAde Zero which has Splenda as a sweetener but other than that.....jus****er......I get headaches and feel awful when I consume anything else.....hope its not your fate!!

Aspartame and sucralose every day give me terrible headaches, so I do two days of plain water and then 1 day of flavored for a nice change.

The unjury chicken soup and unflavored protein powders don't have any sweeteners, real or artificial.

I believe I'm getting headaches and various other adverse things from artificial sweeteners too. Still in the testing phase though. JayRobb makes some protein shakes with stevia but most others seem to have sucralose. That's been my biggest challenge since I still enjoy my protein coffees everyday. To flavor my waters, I squeeze a lime or lemon in. I'm adjusting to the less sweet taste with time I think.

artificial sweeteners are a huge migraine trigger for me. never could drink diet coke and still have a hard time with crystal light. i can tolerate splenda in some stuff, but the aspartame is awful!
