Magnesium citrate did not work?  Did you take it in the morning on an empty stomach or after 12 hours of fasting?  Get up tomorrow and drink a bottle of mag citrate first thing and then a full glass of water.  If that doesn't work I'd go to the ER.  I thought you were taking some kinda prescribed medication for your chronic constipation.  Is it not working?  Hope your troubles get flushed down the drain soon!!

As Sheranfour said, if you've got an 8-ball stuck at the gate (to me it seemed like a tennis ball, LOL!), you need to do something to unstick it.  Glycerin bulbs did it for me, recommended by the ER doc one time a few weeks after surgery when this happened to me.  It pulls liquid directly into the "tennis ball" from your colon.  It may take several doses, the bulbs come in a package of four, you might pick up a couple packages.  For me it took at least 3 doses, I felt like I was reducing the size of that thing with each dose, sorta like dissolving it from the outside in.  I was able to push out the dissolved bits, until the tennis ball was more the size of a golf ball and could exit on its own.

From then on, I do Miralax in my coffee just about every morning to keep things moving.  Miralax works by pulling water into your colon, so stay hydrated, and I think the more liquid you take with it the better.  In fact if you don't take enough liquid it can have the opposite effect.

Good luck!

Everyone recommends Miralax. It has never done anything for me but give me icky gas...even pre surg. Ive gone twice by myself without aid since surgery...that was in the beginning. I end up using a dulcolax supp or mag citrate once a week or i dont go. I started using stool softners, again, gas producing, yesterday. I had surg 4/10/13. My surgeon spoke to his group, prior to his deployment, and they suggested a bowl movement clinic.(???). i havent done that yet.

God speed and prayers AC...

Tia....waitin on mag cit to work cus i gotta work tomorrow:-(

Yes, my colorectal surgeon said it would dilute it too much. He said not to mix more than 8 oz of liquid with one cap of powder.

I have some constipation issues too. The probiotic only seems to help a little but not enough sometimes. I have been very desperate a few times like you. I take 2-3 heaping tablespoons of epsom salts and mixed them in about 24 ounces of water. It takes me an hour or two to drink it all (usually I will douse some water flavor in it, it's disgusting). Within 4-8 hours I am going to the bathroom! That is just what always works for me if it's been a while since I've gone.

Epsom salts is what I used before all the fancy stuff.

Just personally for me, epsom salts work better than Miralax or Dulcolax or anything else. It's just tried and true for me. I am glad you found something that works for you. We all need that something that works :-)

id prefer something simple ike epsom salt right now....im terrified of putting all these freaking medicines in my body...between my heart medication, protnix, ssris, pain meds, poop meds - im all about keeping it simple whenever I can...i'll give this a try (since i have tons of it from when I used to use it for my baths )
