A WTF kind of side effect of VSG

Ask about taking neurontin, it is specifically for nerve pain and is pretty safe as far as drugs go. It has few side effects or interactions with other drugs. They use it for people with shingles pain and I had burning in my feet from nerve damage and it worked wonders. You can also take huge doses if needed. Good luck!

Have you had any other symptoms besides pain?

Like three weeks worth of naseua, vomitting, diahreaah, bloody stools that no doctor seemed to care about? NAAAA. I saw two doctors AFTER i was diagnosed with H Pylori before I could even get the referral to the GI.

Sorry you have had so much difficulty receiving appropriate treatment. My problem with GERD is a bit different. I saw my pcp about the ongoing problem today, and he made a referral for me to have an endoscopy done. Acid reflux really affects one quality of life.

"He said during surgery, all the nerves are severed (duhhhhh)"

Except not really. The vagus nerve sits mostly on the part of the stomach that remains. Now for RnY the vagus nerve is definitely cut but you had VSG, not RnY.

I bet he's just anti-WLS and making **** up. Particularly as, in 5+ years of researching WLS and being online talking to people who've had all the different WLS types, this is the first I've heard of such a thing. There's certainly no papers or studies on it. Which means, if it does happen, it must be pretty freaking rare, which means it's unlikely he's seen many cases especially as the sleeve is a very new WLS and isn't done in the volume that bypasses are.

Now, there are cases where the super-morbidly obese have issues with nerve compression after surgery because of lying on the table for long periods of time. There was one case following a sleeve surgery but the man had a BMI of over 70 and his operation took over 7 hours! Plus, he had sciatic nerve palsy in the spine, not the stomach. (He had to get physical therapy so he could walk again.) It's a possible complication of any surgery that has you lying on your back if you are that heavy.

Good point. He was super young, and it seemed like after he got my referral, he went and just grabbed a basic "WLS for dummies" book because he was talking about general WLS stuff that wasnt even relevant to my appointment. But he was too cute to be annoyed by it.

I think he was just trying to make it seem like in case they dont find anything wrong with my stomach, he has a back up explanation...and was grasping at straws.

I hope the scope sheds some light on what's causing your symptoms. It's painful hearing about what you've been through, so I can just imagine how awful it is to live with it.

My fingers are crossed for you!

Something having WLS has taught me is how many doctors talk out their asses. I mean, before I had it, I understood that dcotors were human and of course they could make mistakes and maybe there were a few bad apples. But I thought as a group they were much smarter and better educated and kept up with the latest research better.

Nothing like doing something society doesn't approve of to have your illusions about an entire profession shattered, I guess. mail
