Hi all! My friends and I take an annual trip and this year the trip is July 12 thru July 15 and my surgery is June 17. Is that pushing it? We won't be doing anything intense, just the casino and beach.

Thanks in advance!!

You should be fine by then. I went on a cruise about 4 weeks post-op. just make good choices.

yes and no

the traveling will not be a problem but you should get out and walk every hour to prevent blood clots

keep you incisions covered the sun is not good for them for 1 year, watch any sand if there not completely healed

now the bad part, if your plan is like mine you will probably  be starting soft food and it might be hard to do away from home, unless you can delay the change a few days , if you lay out in the sun make shore to drink extra liquids

If u have to go then go
I waited a few months b4 I did any trips
I was on medical leave for 6 wks and I rested, walked and sticked to my intake plan
I know for a fact I wouldn't have enjoyed myself on vaca at 4 wks out
Can it b rescheduled at 3 months post op or at 2 months post op

You're going to be working through different stages of eating and drinking.  It's hard to predict how well you personally will adapt to each change.  It's also hard to know what your energy level is going to be by the time you're barely four weeks postop.

Thanks for the info everyone! I will be able to rest when needed and I also will be traveling with a cooler for my food needs! Great, I think I can handle it.

I did just that, for the exact amount of time at the exact same time.  I say as long as you are doing ok health wise and have everything under control.. go for it!  I made sure to bring along some protein powder, almond milk and a couple shaker bottles... I also brought a few other snack type items that were ok for me to eat at that time.  When we went out to eat, I opted for broth based soups, or would just take a few nibbles off of something on my families plates.  Keep water in your hand at all time... it's easy to forget to get your water in when you're in a different environment.

I had a blast on my mini vacation... and I was already down about 30 lbs by then.. so I was already feeling better than I did pre-op, with more energy and a willingness to go out and do more things than I would have done otherwise!

Have fun, and good luck with your surgery!

Blood clots won't be much of an issue a month post op but food will be.  I went on a trip 7 days post op.  It was only about 3 hours away and nothing strenuous but it was still fun.

I went on a mini vacation less than a week after surgery.  I was completely fine.  Was about a 9 hour road trip we stopped a 'lot but IM glad I went.  Made me feel "normal"  after a few days of not feeling like myself.  Go and have fun!  You will be glad you did...

I traveled at that point with no problems. I had to do blood thinner injections before I flew (my surgeon is pretty conservative) but no big deal. I took protein shakes and all went well. Have a great time!!
