Hello. It's been a while since I had courage to post on this board. Been mostly on ps board bcuz I am considering lipo with extended tummy tuck. Scheduled it today.

Important question!  Is there a 2nd revision for my VSG other than gastric or Ds?  I don't really want either. I would like to have VSG revision if possible?  I totally messed up. Quick synopsis. I am 40. I had lap band in 2007. Failed. I lost 10 pounds and gained ??  had conversion to VSG January 16,2012. Went from 248 to 180 and now back to 198!  I been out of control since September. I am 5'5" and my goal is 175. I'm so ashamed of myself. I used my 18 month window and now may be too late for me.  Can I get a vSg revision w/o gastric or Ds? Am I making a mistake with plastics or could this give me jump start back to weight loss to get back to 180(never have appetite after surgery)?B4 u ask, no never got the urge, energy, or sense to exercise regularly. I'm not looking for u all to baby me, I'm ready for real talk. Thanks for all input!

Shanelle,

I am not a vet, however, I would like to just add my two cents and what is working for me...

1) Get back to basics...protein, protein, protein.

2) Eat lower carb

3) Get back to measuring your portions and undereat your capacity

4) Try the cottage cheese restriction test...see how much restriction or capacity you have

5) From what I understand, there is no "window" for success...if you get back to basics, you can do this...

Finally...I would encourage you to rethink your stance on exercise...even if you do a 30 minute walk daily, it will help.

Best of luck to you and welcome back to the board

I agree w/Christie...
I'm also new to this, but there is no fail...
Get back to protien shakes and maybe try to figure out
What's making you sabotage yourself.

IMO, don't spend money on plastic surgery until you have met your goal and maintained for a length of time.  No weight loss surgery will work if you don't change your habits- start exercising and get your diet under control.  You could do revision after revision after revision but if you don't work the surgery it wont work for you.

Forgive me if I am messing up on the math, but you're looking at surgical options to lose 18 pounds to return to your lowest weight, or 23 pounds to get to goal?

That's extreme.

It seems to me that a period of regular exercise and attention to what you eat will get you where you want to be faster than going through a post op period.

Can you honestly say that you have truly worked the tools you were given? What will make this time any different?

You asked for real talk- there's my $.02.

Thanks. Honestly I can't say that I have but my fear is that it in too late. My goal is 175 but to be "normal" wouldn't be so bad. If I got to 150 with a revision I would be ok with that. So not really 18 pounds but 50. Not that that makes a difference in the fact that I totally screwed up. Just wondering if a revision was possible. I do plan on trying the basics and adding more than walking to my exercise. I have started using the stairs at work and been adding premiere protein shakes but have to cut out alot of other calories. Hopefully I can lose if I do the right things. I think that being that close to being out of onederland was a wake up call.

Got it. That makes more sense. Still, the advice here to stick to plan and follow a regular exercise program is solid, so that you can get to where you need to be before plastics. It seems a shame to have plastics done if you only end up losing more - and being saggy again!

Any surgery you have now or in the future will fail if you do not put any effort forth in eating less, eating healthy, and moving your body.  You just can't expect something for nothing.  I have not gotten to my goal - I am a Lap Band to Sleeve like you BUT I know for sure that I can still get to my goals with effort.  There is no "window" !  People who have not had WLS lose weight every single day with effort.  What are you willing to DO?  What are you willing to give up?  Keeping it real, it seems you want all the reward and results without moving a finger.

You got this girl!  You did not fail!  You did not screw up!  You did what you needed to do and now you are ready to do something else - hopefully you are ready to do the work required to get the stuff you want.

All Best,

L

What does your surgeon say? This surgery provides you with a tool for you to use, its not magic as you have found. You have to make the changes needed to get to goal and keep the weight off. Before spending money for plastic surgery I would get to the goal weight that you want to be. In fact, you can use plastic surgery as your incentive to get to goal. Go join a gym or find some type of activity to keep you moving ( I fortunately have a gym that also does a Biggest Loser competition and that helped to get me to goal). Lastly, I would consider seeking out the help of a therapist to find why you were sabotaging yourself and weight loss.

With a vsg, the 18-24 month honeymoon period does not apply. This window is for gastric bypass people and is when the most malabsorption of calories occurs. After this period of time, the intestines have grown more villi, which compensates for the part of the intestine that was bypassed. At this time, most of the calories ingested are absorbed, although, the malabsorption of micro nutrients is forever . The further out that you get, weight loss is slower and takes clean eating to achieve a lasting weight loss.
