Thank you -- goal met

I have reached my goal weight --Thanks to my OH family -- and support from vets Elina, Frisco, Lee, Rob, Alison, Courtney, Jenn and many others

Started this journey in Sept 2011 with initial meeting, decided to move forward in April 2012 and had VSG on July 25-12 -- have lost 110 lbs and have gained so many NSV's that I would not have imagined. Will have blood work done again in July and am hopeful that my cholesterol is normal; blood sugar and blood pressure are great "normal"; will have follow up sleep study in Aug but no longer seem to need my CPAP machine---no longer have urinary incontinence, my knees don't hurt, I am walking daily and just feel so very good physically and mentally.

I know that this is a life long journey and that although I now have a "normal BMI" 22.5 -- my obesity is only in remission and I will need to continue eating to a plan -- protein first, tracking, walking (hope to add in more exercise -- restricted somewhat as had rotator cuff surgery recently) and daily commitment to my health or I will run the risk of becoming obese again.

For newbies -- my best advice is that you really research this surgery and the MD and facilities that offer the VSG; read all of the past posts and listen to advice from vets who have been there and are living the lifestyle--I so appreciate their sharing of their ongoing journey, including the bumps in the road. I followed the plan many vets have succeeded with -- 600-800 cal/day, over 60 grams of protein/day and less than 40 carbs; over 64 ounces water/day; and always measure your food and EAT UNDER YOUR SLEEVE (thanks Elina and Frisco).

The last couple of months I really tried to increase protein to 80 to 100 grams/day and pushed fluids. Also watch out for constipation -- not good or fun!!!  When I had my initial meeting (Sept 2011) I thought I knew what it meant when the MD said the VSG is only a tool, but I really had a very small grasp of what that meant; I now realize that my mindset is the most important thing and the VSG will help me IF I don't abuse it!

I am very grateful that I was given the opportunity to live a healthier lifestyle.

Congratulations!! That is a huge accomplishment! I am 28lbs away from my "normal BMI" weight...hard to believe. I am working hard to get there because the sleeve has helped me make all this possible, it certainly is a tool. That and all the advice I have graciously stolen from Frisco! kiss
