How to talk to my mom about sleeve

I finally told my mom this week.  My mom dealt with my weight as a child differently.  I wasn't a big child, but I always had a little extra fluff.  She never said anything.  She just led by example...eating healthy, exercising.  Unfortunately, I had a enabling grandmother who bought the sugary foods and pop.

Like you, I told everyone except my mom.  I knew she would worry and she has a tendency to be negative.

I'm glad I waited to tell her.  She took it quite well now that she sees I'm healthy, down 80+ lbs, and living life.  She said that she's just happy I'm healthy.

Whatever you decide is up to you.  If you aren't seeing a counselor regularly, I would recommend it.  My counselor has helped me with this issue.  Hoping the best for you!

Ugh. I would do one of two things.

1. Don't tell her for now. Maybe tell her later, maybe not.

2. Send her an email right before you go under so she has no way to contact you before. Tell her you don't want to discuss it with her, but wanted her to know that you're doing this and you love her and you need her to be supportive and non-judgemental.

Honestly, I just wouldn't tell her. She sounds like she has WAY too many issues of her own.

Listen to your gut feelings and instincts you have on this!  I also have a complicated mom -I  was sent to Weigh****chers at 12 when I weighed 112!

I did not tell my mother until I was a month out from surgery.  I still can tell she doesn't completely think I'll lose weight this time by some of the comments she makes.  She says she is proud of me and excited for me but I think she just can't help making some of those little comments that bite.

There is nothing wrong with putting yourself first (hard concept for us women & probably a major source of our weight gain!) and having this surgery and telling her later.

I told my mother it was because I didn't want to worry her.  As I talk to her everyday, the night of surgery I lied and said I had a migraine.  Then the next few days I told her I had a bug and didn't feel well.

Good luck to you on your journey!!

I told my mom 3 months after surgery.  But then she lives 7 hours away and I don't see her that often.
