Protein Coffee vs eggs for breakfast -- why is the coffee more satisfying?

I agree, if it work why change?

I still have a protein drink every morning with my vitamins and I am more than 2 1/2 years out.  It usually holds me until late morning too.  I see no reason to change.

Meh. I wouldn't stress. As for summer, PROTEIN ICED COFFEE!!! No seriously, it's my fav. I cold brew my own iced coffee (half cafe using a Toddy system) and then mix up my protein powder and add. I just want it to warm the heck up so I can start drinking iced coffee again (yes, I'm a bit rigid in that it has to be a certain temp before I really enjoy iced beverages).

I'm over 2yrs out and still start my day w. a protein coffee of some sort. It gives me a good 20-30g and it's a great way to get protein in. and then as a snack at some point, I'll usually have mini eggbites as I tend to eat lunch at variable hours.

I agree with what others have said.  If it isn't broke, why fix it?  My surgeon wants me to ALWAYS have a protein shake in the morning, or for one meal, at least.  I know not all surgeons feel that way, but I am just putting it out there, so you know it isn't totally off the mark to drink your protein.

I am only 3 weeks out and have been super turned off by the sweetness of the protein shakes.  In the morning I mix a full rtd protein shake with equal parts of coffee and it helps me get it down.  Combined cofee and rtd makes 22 ounces with 30 gm of protein.  I was leery about drinking the coffee so early out but it is helping me meet my protein goal and also helping with constipation.

Well, I have a different view...Protein coffee is a no go for me because I don't like sweetened coffee.

So breakfast for me is always animal protein. I do eggs occasionally but typically I eat more dense protein, just as I do at lunch and dinner. So I'll have a grilled turkey burger, grilled salmon burger, smoked salmon. Because it's dense protein, it holds me over much better than eggs.

I've done that too, and it is satisfying and lasts longer.

An "egg" on it's own isn't enough for me but a 1 egg or 2 egg white omelette with finely minced up fat free ham or turkey breast and topped with 1 oz of the cheese of my choice will hold me for 4 hrs... Problem is it takes me 30 min+ to eat it. LOL

I can't do a "shake" for breakfast or my blood sugar plummets... Dangerously so. I am better with one as a snack. If it works for you then so much the better...

I do omelets, but it's still the same.  For example, this AM, I had part of an omlet that contained whole eggs, ham, bacon sausage, cheese, tomato, onions and mushroom (deluxe omelet) from our work cafeteria.  This is the first one since my VSG -- and it's good for about 4 meals!    So it's pretty hearty.  That's why I've been so surprised.

An egg by itself is still basically a snack!  LOL!

So, I'm guessing I'll keep with the shakes for a while (or a super, duper dense protein -- like leftovers from dinner!)

"If it isn't broken, why fix it?"

DING DING DING. We have a winner!

We have been told so much crappy dieting advice over our many years. Don't drink your calories. Don't eat after X pm. Don't do this. Do do that.

Most of it is bunk.

How many times have we read "if you cut out drinking soda, you'll lose 10, 20, or more pounds a year"? So we switched to drinking something without calories. Did we lose those pounds? I sure didn't!

Now there is some science behind the advice not to drink calories. Our body does have a harder time regulating liquid calories. However, all those studies were done on carby drinks, not proteiny drinks. Not to mention "harder time" isn't the same thing as "impossible." So make of that what you will.

Btw, I still drink a protein drink most mornings. I just can't make myself eat a sold meal that early in the AM. But I find I do better if I eat *something*. So I drink a protein shake. It takes me forever and I don't always fini**** But it work for me and I'm 4.5 years out. If it ever stops working for me, I'll stop doing it.

Though today I'm in Vegas so I'm having the special at the Hash House for breakfast. Don't be jealous (those of you that know what the Hash House is, that is.)
