What's Dr Cirangle's viewpoint on Nsaids for VSG?

My doc says if you need them, take them just make sure have something in your stomach.  Ms. Batt who has a DS has been taking daily for years.

I don't believe people really understand what needing an NSAID  means.  I have palindromic rheumatisism it mimics RA - that means I could and have woken up crippled.

So the point is try to avoid but if you can't you must take.  It does no matter who says what.  I can deal with a headache or cramps but I can't deal with inflammation and pain that can make you feel hopeless even when you are trying your very best to be positive.

I use tumeric, ginger, green juicing, hot baths, showers, pads, all sorts of rubs with menthol/peppermint - the icey hot sort of stuff.  I use positive affirmations, healing music, prayer . . .  then if I am still in pain I've got to end the suffering, the inflammation with NSAIDS.

All best,

Leila

When he says to take them with something in your stomach does he mean food or a PPI or both?

I just tried to look for that very old email- no luck.  I only used a PPI for the first 4 or 5 weeks so food (PPI sounds like a good idea too).  I think a protein drink or yogurt would be good.  This goes against every rule but I also flush with water.  I just do not want an Aleve or whatever to sit in my stomach or digestive tract.

mid-morning I took a 600mg ibupofen with a spoon of peanut butter some before, some after then 27 oz of water.  I am not proud of that but I have lost range of motion in my ankles and feet due to inflammation  and need to be functional.  I fight like crazy though 45mins on my bike this morning.  I'm not going down without a fight.

Feel better hun.  Just keep looking forward!

Okay how in the world to you drink 27 oz water after eating?  I always forget the eating and drinking rule but I remember really quick when I throw up water threw my nose after eating and drinking together.  lol  Sounds like a good idea to flu**** down I think even the label says to do that.  I'm just not sure how I could do that after eating since I can't fit the water in the food at the same time.  Even if I didn't eat I could not fit 27 oz at once.  It would take me an hour to drink that much.  Pre-op though was a different story I used to guzzle water by the gallons.  lol

Oh hun, you have to do it your way - how YOU can.  Although I never had any issues drinking from almost the very beginning, you are early out.  A teaspoon of PB all together is not lots of food FOR ME and it is not all at once.  I have a glass Voss water bottle (It is a throw away or recycle bottle that I've kept - if you get one a little vinegar helps to clean it with)   I use that happens to measure 27.1 oz and I use it as a goal to drink a couple of refills a day - again, not in a gulp but I do give myself time limits because sometimes I just hate drinking water and I have to motivate myself.  It sits at my desk and my eyes can't miss the very tall slender bottle that screams "drink me".

It is funny because I went back to work day 6 after having my VSG at that time I made sure I took my shot of Lovenox, PPI, wafer multi-vit then I drank my bottle of Poland Spring before I left for work - it was something like 16.6oz and I guess I drank pretty quickly early post op.  It was a job that I just knew I had to do and I did because I focused.  Just reflecting  - sorry.

Take good care and work with what you got and how you can.

I do drink a lot in a day like between 80 to 100 oz.  But I can't drink more than 4 sips at a time without having to wait.  In an hour I can drink 16oz but in 4 or 5 intervals.    It's hard to get used to because with pre-op I was such a water guzzler.  Now if I forget to drink I do get thirsty but than if I drink too much I know cause out it comes my nose.  Kind of feels like when your in a pool and water goes up your nose. (only it's coming out my nose)  lol  :-)  So I try to not forget to sip constantly.

Advil is the only thing that puts a dent in my menstrual cramps.   Tylenol does not do anything at all,   I only need to take them one or two days a month but during those few days it's every 4 hours like clockwork or I'm in for a world of hurt.   I wish Tylenol worked for me!
