What's Dr Cirangle's viewpoint on Nsaids for VSG?
All doctors differ on there opinions on this. I do think that Dr C's opinion would be good because he's done so many sleeves. But the two doctors in Mexico have also done so many sleeves and they say it's okay. (Dr Aceves and Dr Alvarez) So it's really hard to say.
Bottom line. Nsaids are not good for anyone and shouldn't be abused. (Do what I say not what I do. lol) Possibly been sleeved we are at a high risk for ulcers. This of course depends on which doctor you ask. On occasion and using sparely would probably be okay. The things is pre-op I was taking Nsaids every single day. Post op I've only taking Celebrex maybe 4 times which my doctor approved is also an Nsaid but doesn't work the same way. It also doesn't work for my pain either. :-(
Tylenol is not an NSAID at all and can be taken for headaches. It personally doesn't work for me even exta strength. For headaches I've been rubbing Tiger Balm on my forhead neck and shoulders and it does help. (since surgery) It's all natural can be found at Whole foods. But the Tiger balms doesn't help me feet, ankle, and knee pain.

Ulcers in the stomach or in our case sleeve. Not colon since in surgery they didn't even touch our colon however that may also be an issue with an RNY patient I'm not sure. I think though ulcers in the colon are not cause by Nsaids anyway I don't believe.

Alleve, Motrin, Advil, asprin, etc. All the stuff that actually works for pain. Not tylenol.

I was on Celebrex regularly for years for my severely arthritic knees and I also took Advil and Arthrotec. I was told no NSAIDs as well after my VSG for the same reasons as the previous posters.
My knee pain is pretty much gone after losing over 100 lbs which I am ecstatic about but occasionally if I overdo stairs or more strenuous exercise they will swell horribly. I was cleared to take NSAIDs ONLY in those instances when I need to reduce the swelling as Tylenol obviously wasn't helpful in reducing the inflammation. That being said, though, I take a PPI regularly if I need to use the NSAID's to try to protect my stomach.
I haven't had any problems so far and I really limit my use of them (I think I've taken them twice since surgery 7 months ago) but I try my best not to take them unless I absolutely have to.
Good luck!
I asked Dr Cirangle about NSAIDS before I decided to have surgery because I take them daily for an old neck injury. He said it was fine, except not for 2 weeks before surgery and for awhile after. I waited one month before asking him if I could start them back up and have been taking them ever since. I take them with my protein drink in the morning.
I wouldn't have had the surgery if I couldn't take them afterwards.
I'm glad to hear that. And glad to know too that your 3 years out taking them regularly with no problems. Do you take a PPI?

I am not taking a PPI at this time and have not for months. I tend to take them when I travel on 2-3 week trips each year and then it takes me awhile to wean off of them. I do take antacids occasionally, but that is usually when I eat bread or cereal. Grain carbs tend to give me acid which is a good reason for me to avoid them.
Is Zantac an antacids or a PPI or both? Someone said to me maybe take it with Zantac OTC since Prilosec's generic made me nauseated.
