75-90% got me NO where before WLS...
and NOW that I have regained 40lbs WHY would I think it would get me anywhere after WLS.
I have realized this before, but it's been daunting me recently since I'm exercising like 4-5 times a week and yes I'll say it been on my diet 75-90% of the time and I'm NOT losing.
I have realized that I have been justifying the none 100% because well **** I'm EXERCISING so it shouldn't matter right?
I have realized that it really really does matter. I am reminded that my girlfriend lost 70lbs and didn't exercise one bit. I am reminded that the first 2 years of my WLS when I lost over 100lbs I didn't exercise not one bit.
I am reminded about the quote I saw one day from Eggface.
"Weight Loss Surgery is not a Do-Over (repeat same mistakes = get a similar outcome.) It is a Do-BETTER (make lifestyle changes you can continue forever.)"

You speak the truth. Exercise is not a way to lose weight, at best, it is a way to maintain. In general, I look at exercise as a way to keep my muscles and my heart healthy. I know this to be true because my trainer, who works out like a mad woman and looks fantastic, eat about 1500 calories a day. I think that the only way exercise can be used as a reason to increase calories is if someone is a real athlete and exercises quite vigorously for many hours every single day.
My experience is that I hit goal without a lot of exercise. I *very* slowly ramped up the workouts from just walking, starting 3 months post-op. After I hit goal I really ramped them up.
It works great in maintenance - my weight isn't changing at all, but my body continues to recompose and redistribute Body fat is down, muscle is up, clothes have dropped another size, at the same weight.
I still try to keep NET calories, on average, below 800-1000/day. That seems to be working to keep me in a 5lb range.

I think I went into the exercise mode with crossed fingers (HOPING) that I could still eat and lose, well that did NOT work before I had WLS so I'm not sure why I entertained the thought post op. I will continue to workout because I am enjoying it and my knees feel stronger and my posture is amazing. With that said I'm on Operation 100% diet!!!

I just realized a few days ago what 90% really is.
90% is basically two meals out of 21 that are not the best choices. It is a lot less than I thought it was. I hope I said that right but what it means to me is that I'm making poorer choices more often than I thought.
Your post just reminded me of this.
