100 pounds in 5 months is great! Consider yourself fortunate, many people do not lose that fast - EVER. Look at it like this, even if you slow down now and lose 10 pounds a month, within one year you will be at your goal. Could you have done that before surgery? I couldn't have! I bet if you add exercise, you will continue to enjoy great succes, and feel great, too!

It's normal to slow down after about 6 months or so. You're still doing wonderfully! I'm lucky to lose about 4-5 lbs a month. I stay on track (for the most part), and measure myself with a tape. Usually, when I'm not losing weight, I'm shrinking in inches. Definitely get some exercise in! It helps to keep your muscles toned and it does help some with the sagging skin. Also remember to get in your fluids. :)

Totally normal. I lose about 2-4 pounds per month this far out. 10 pounds is right on target for where you are. Remember, you've lost a lot of weight so it has to slow down. Think percentages!

I think one of the things that can challenge those who have lost very fast like you have, is that when your loss slows ( but actually is just getting to a more " normal" pace) it feels very slow because it was so fast initially. I am 6 months out. I lost 11-12 pounds each month for four months, so when last month was 9 lbs it made me a little disappointed, but not much because it wasn't that drastic a change.

I am sure you are fine. Of course exercise is good for all us humans.

When you start off losing, you have a lot of extra material that needs blood, oxygen, etc.  It also takes a lot more energy to just move your mass around.  Because of all of that you have a higher BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and burn a lot more calories just being alive.

As you lose, that BMR drops.  Thats actually a good thing - it means you are doing what you need to do.  It also means that you have to do more to keep the burn rate up.  You have to exercise, you have to add lean muscle (The more muscle, the more energy it uses.  Plus Muscle burns more calories per pound than fat ever did so you don't have to gain as much muscle as fat that you lost).

Also ata bout 6 months you tend to see capacity increase.  This can lead to you feeling more hunger.  IF complacency and grazing creep back in - weight loss can slow.

My advice, start exercising.  Do something fun - walk, bicycle, etc.  Do some strength training to build some lean muscle.  That will help you get losing faster again.

Hi,

What you are going through is normal. Weight loss tends to slow down at close to 6 months or so as your body's resting metabolic rate decreases. I'm almost 7 months out, and will have lost only about 4 pounds in the last month. Am I worried? No. I realize that this is simply the natural state of things.

I also realize how important exercise is for not only continuing weight loss, but keeping it off during maintenance.

Don't get discouraged! Keep on plan and the weight will come off.

Thank you! I need to hear this...rationally, I know that weight loss slows, and I've been at 200 lbs the past two weeks (thank you, TOM)...I'm in my seventh month right now. It's killing me b/c I want to get to ONE-derland so much!! One stupid pound away! My goal is 155. I keep fighting the good fight, though, and have been more mindful about what I've put in my mouth than before. I'm usually sticking to the 800 calories a day, yet I can totally tell that my sleeve's capacity for intake has increased. Time to be more mindful than ever. I refused to get discouraged!

Not to worry! Your caloric deficit is a lot less than it was when you carried an additional 100 pounds. You are still losing well.
