1 week post op..kinda concerned :(
So I was officially 1 week post op on Thursday. (YAY) I had my check up with my NUT and surgeon on Friday and she cleared me to start purees. I've had a few things (corned beef hash, pureed chowder, beans) and so far so good. I can definitely tell that there's restriction and I feel like I know when to stop. My only concern is that my weight has been STALLING. Yesterday morning I was 236.2 when I woke up and when I weighed right before bed I was 237.2. Now I don't take the mid-day/nighttime weigh-ins too seriously because I know that I've been drinking fluids and such. I was just kinda sad that when I woke up this morning and I was back to 236.2.... so I've basically been staying at this weight for almost two days.
Not to complain, but I'm just kinda nervous that I'm stalling already. :( I was losing nearly 2-3 lbs a day straight.
Am I just being paranoid or could I be stalling because I'm starting purees? Is this kinda normal?
Ok I wasn't given the ok for purees until week 3, but each plan is different. Don't worry too much about weight right now. Your main concern is getting in your fluid and your proteins. Don't weigh yourself everyday. (I'm a hypocrite.) It will drive you insane! Weigh in once a week. Concentrate on your fluids and proteins and you'll be good to go. :)
Work on doing what your surgeon requires. The weight will come off when it's ready. You can't force it and if you are on plan, it will come off.
Best of luck to you. And yes, you are paranoid but that's okay. Just know in your heart that it will happen.
800 calories and less than 20 net carbs is the shizzle
Anywhoo.. Put the scale away for a month.
Hard but do not weigh the first month. Your ARE going to stall the whole way through your journey---it is just the way it is.
go in search and read about the 3 week stall. it happens. you will be ok.

That's wierd how youre on purees now, because my fiancee is 1 week post op too, and she only can have fluids til week 3. she hasn't had any stalls yet, she's been losing lbs. but she' weighed this morning and it went down than weigh another time it went up. so i'm just guessing it's all the water, and the carnation instant breakfest. Also the nurses in the hospital said to drink A LOT of water so she doesn't get deitrated, very important or you gotta go back in the hospital. you need to take time so the insistions to heal. that's why i don't get why they told you to start on solids already. lol
I was on liquids for a day, purees for 3 days and then soft foods before the end of week 1. Every dr is different and the reason I went with my dr is because I trust him. Every dr is different. I havent once gotten sick or had pains, everyone takes things different. I don't usually talk about it here because some people think I am doing it wrong because its different then theirs. I had a lot of negativity about how fast I got to eat. But it is clearly written out for me what I am allowed.
That being said I lost 13lbs the first week, 7lbs the second and 4lbs the 3rd. I think I am down another 4 this week but I weigh in monday. I think your body naturally slows down for a bit and then starts up again. I thought I hit a stall early on and woke up one morning and 3lbs was gone. You can message me if you have any questions.
Don't worry. All surgeons plans are different. A week out of the hospital and your weight staying the same for two days is not a cause for concern.
I started purees 1.5 weeks post op -- so it's not much different than my plan.
Note: Some people weigh every day to track patterns. Some people weigh once a week so they don't go nuts over day-to-day fluctuations. You will not lose weight every day, and two, or three or four days of weight loss is not a stall. If you weigh every day, just pick one day in a week to "count" your weight and judge your loss from that point.
You will have periods of stalls where your body readjusts itself. If you search the site for stalls, you'll see that there are some typical patterns, and that can help you know that you are completely normal!
Best of luck on your journey.
I think that's what I'll do. Just pick maybe Wednesdays or something to be my "official" weigh-in day. I know I can't NOT weigh everyday lol It's just too tempting every time I go into the bathroom. But I'll do what you said and just have a certain day to actually count that weight....unless it goes down...then it counts. lol
Thank you!
