I have appointment on 3/18 with surgeon . I was told that the doctor reviewed my chart and coming in for consult visit as well as a fee of 100.00 non refundable. now my question is has anyone had that experience and if so how long after the consultation visit will it be before my actual date for surgery. Please help this is all new to me. I don't want to be disappointed any more.
Smooches,

I don't know what all you have already done. It all depends on how you are paying and who your doctor is. If you are trying to go through insurance then some require 6 months of supervised diet, meeting with a dieticitian, a psych evaluation, training classes and blood work. If you are self pay then some do not require this but most require the money before the surgery or they will not perform. It is not a bad idea for them to have you on a some kind of supervised meal plan. They are trying to make sure that you are truly prepared for this experience.
This surgery is a tool and you will have to change your relationship with food or you will gain the weight back. Some think they can eat anything they want after this surgery with no consequences. At first you will lose just because you can't eat that much but later that will change. To be successful you will need to learn to eat a high protein diet. There are different views on carbs and I am not going into that argument.
Some people that have been successful and gotten to goal weight have eaten, 600-800 cal per day, less than 40gr carbs, 60-120 gr of protein and drink lots and lots of water. Also to exercise even if just walking. If you are ready to do this and learn to eat your protein first and hit that goal, then you are ready to do this.
Good Luck!
