Freaking out! (Bougie size question)

Hi!

OK..I too have a larger sleeve size...42.

Maybe "they" say that the larger the sleeve the more chance the weight gain in 3-5 yrs...

BUT in my education over WLS what I have learned is that it's NOT the sleeve that causes you to gain or become unsuccessful...it's YOU!

If you have a small sleeve ( say 34) and fill it with french fries...eating slow and grazing on crap...you're gonna gain the weight back. If you have a 42...and weigh and measure and eat protein and veggies and drink water...you won't.

As they say...size dosen't matter as much as what you do with it.

Just my 2

Peace!

Yeah but a 42 sleeve and a 60 are not even comparable. I have a 40 and I know I can eat more than those with a tight 32. I make a conscious effort to not eat to capacity. I've seen studies with the older sleeves that were much larger and most of those people needed to get the switch to continue being successful.

To some extent we do need to start this process out with the best tool available. If not she will be trying to revise around 2-3 years out.

Bougie smougie man I hate those things - let me start by saying first off they are just a guide as the surgeon does he staple and stitch the technique is more important yes most use 32f or 34 - I am a vet I am 4 1/2 years out my surgeon used 48 I lost 100 lbs I have kept it off easily have not gained anything. The difference in size I was told between a 32 and 48 is equivalent to me being able to eat two teaspoons more if food that amount of food is not going to make or break your weight loss goal you have to follow the rules - even though my surgeon used a 48 I found I can eat less than some who's surgeon used a 32 so I say it's totally up to you but I truly believe technique and how you work it is key best wishes to you .

Thank you so much for this! This is what I wanna see. Someone who has used higher bougie size and is further out. That makes me feel much more confident that I can succeed even though I don't have the smallest size!

Thanks for all the helpful replies everyone!
Yeah first thing this morning I called them and spoke with Casey (dr's nurse) and asked her about the bougie size. SHE said that she has no idea what size he uses and that I must've spoken to someone else about that. She said she would try and get in contact with Dr. Ikramuddin to ask about bougie size and my expected total stomach capacity. I'm sort of relieved because at least now I know SHE didn't say that he uses a 60. I'm trying to think who I would've talked to before that would've said that. It might've been my NUT? But I'm not sure if she would be correct in knowing what size bougie he uses??

She called me back 5 mins ago and said that he actually uses a 40!

THANK YOU JESUS. I was so worried. I was freaking out and not even able to sleep cause I was so worried about this whole thing!

It might not be a 32 or 34, but I'm much much happier with 40 than 60!

SO happy that I asked you guys, because I probably would have never asked and would've been thinking that he used a 60 on me!
